Went down to the Gunwharf yesterday for some Xmas shopping. Goodness knows how much Mrs D spent, but I got a result with a £109 pair of Timberland shoes for £25. Other than sustenance & car park that was all I spent. HM Naval Dockyard was closed for a crappy Victorian Christmas Festival @ £17 so I gave that a miss.

Here's some pics :-

One of the few outlet places I don't mind visiting with the Wife and Daughters because of the nice views. Hoping to get down there ourselves the weekend after next to knock out the Christmas Shopping.

Get there very early Marco, Sunday trading opening is 11am. I'd planned to get there 10.30ish but as usual running late and engine off was 11.15. Crawled from the RN Rugby ground for the last 20 mins or so as the car park was only letting in as cars exited. Chatted to a fella from Poole who'd rolled straight in at 9.15am - I think the food outlets are open then.

What you ought to do is get an annual ticket here for £21 http://www.historicdockyard.co.uk/tickets/ leave them at the Gunwharf for shopping then you can spend a cheap productive day visiting all the attractions Victory, Submarine Museum, Mary Rose, Firepower Museum, Warrior, Navy Museum etc etc including the boat transfers to/from Sub & Firepower. I couldn't do it cos of the Xmas Fayre in the Dockyard

That's somewhere I really should visit sometime, given that my dad served 30 years in the RN, based at Pompey for most of that time too.

Sad that these bases and dockyards have been run down so much though.

We lived in Lovedean (a tiny village then), not far from Waterlooville, when I was 7 yrs old. I still have a picture of me and bro' in our Waterlooville Cubs uniforms.

As a kid I used to watch the warships and aircraft carriers depart for the Falklands from across the Solent. Also saw the Mary Rose getting raised from my school playing fields.

Bit of a nightmare Ded but the girls were happy. Nearly an hour to get in the Car Park wasn't a good start and it was packed solid.
Your suggestion was tempting but I'll leave it for another day as they wouldn't of been amused.
Did get to have a nice roast at The Old Custom House and a Pint of London Pride which went down well
