A wedding is the happiest moment for everyone in the Philippines; bride and groom, parents, sponsors, guests, and all who will attend the ceremony. It is actually the time when they can reunite with family, meeting new friends, and enjoy the food. They say the Filipino wedding favours are one of the reasons why they are glad to attend a wedding party, because it is something nice and has meaning for the newly wed.
.
Wedding favours are given to the guests as a remembrance of the event and for the appreciation as they witness the meaningful moment of the newly weds. The traditional give away that the couple always prepare are the Kalamay or Calamay, which means “sugar”, it is a very popular delicacy in many regions of the Philippines; and the Suman, which is made from glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk, wrapped with banana leaf, this rice cake originates from the Philippines. The reasons for giving this on the wedding day is that they believe that if they give something sticky and sweet on that day, their married life would be the same as the sweetened and sticky rice cakes. These two are the famous favours for Filipino weddings, especially in the provinces of the Philippines, but in this modern generation, it is not used often.
.
For now, the thing they usually give to the guests is something that could be used in their own home and is long lasting, as they believe that their relationship would be the same as the gift. Wind chimes are also common as a giveaway in the Philippines, it is an innocent piece of art that is really good for house decorations, has a soft and beautiful sound, and gives harmony. Candles are also used as wedding favours, some are flower scented, while some are just an ordinary, plain or have colours; it really doesn’t matter, the meaning would still be the same as giving light to overpower a dark and unhappy life.
.
The latest trend now is flower seeds, or trees; of course the seeds could be symbolized as the new couple, they will grow and poduce lovely flowers. The best tree to give is the Narra tree, strong and long lasting. The Wedding is important, so every thing that will be part of it should have reason and meaning.
