My phone is on contract here with Three. Will this phone work when I'm in the Phils? What's the best Pay-as-you-go network for the internet, and how much data do you get?
Is there 4G in the Philippines?

If your phone is open, just get a pay as you go sim once there, then just load it up if you are running out

There are hundreds of little stores who will unlock your phone, this is the Philippines :icon_lol:

Hi. My phone is from 'Three' as well. You can request for them to unlock it. Phone Three or do it online. You can use the roam on but quite expensive. I tried to buy Smart sim card and top up Php1,000 bill to subscribe to one month of unlimited internet.
Great way to stay in touch with hubby and people back in UK. x

I'm in the Phils now. My three network works under the name of Globe but is £3 per mb the greedy sods, so I took that sim straight out so I don't get any nasty bills next month.
I've put a Globe sim in and it works, It comes with 1peso and 35 free txts, it also has some data but don't know how much and its slow. I'll top up later, 50 peso will get me 250mb for 3 days

If you use a lot of data subscribe to supersurf.
50 peso for one day
250 pesos for five days
999 pesos for 28 days
Thats what I do when I visit
Up to 8GB data usage per 24 hours

Is that Smart or Globe...or another provider ?
Seems an excellent deal for holidays.

For 2,499 peso you get 15gb for 30 days. Or if you make up your own promo (Gosakto) can have 100 mins talk, 50 txt and unlimited data for 30 days for 1200 peso :xxgrinning--00xx3:
But not sure if it will be a slower speed.
I'll look at the other promos later then I'll decide which one to get.
I've been having the 50 peso data promo 30mb and was very fast, got 5mb per second

I'm very happy with the Supersurf.
Been to the Phils 4 times now and it's never failed me.

I believe a couple of gigs is supposedly enough for most people over a month average surfing use. 15gig is massive. :cwm24:

I'd agree with that.
Anyone on holiday in the Philippines who uses anything over 5 gig is wasting a good holiday IMO

We just usually use free wifi service in the hotels we booked in or if we go to our house in Manila or Cavite.

So I got the 999 peso Supersurf on a new 4g sim card, haven't tested it much so far but in the house it's slow. I'll test it properly when out somewhere.
Now I read that there's a fair use policy of 1gb per day or 3gb per month then they will slow you down. Sounds like what they do in UK
I'll see how it goes and I'll put the other globe sim in the wife's phone and load it with the Gosurf promo and do speed tests.
Gosurf p999 5gb
Supersurf p999 3gb unlimited?

Hi Cheekee, when was it that it was 8gb per 24 hours? Probably can get 8gb but after 1gb they will slow you down.
I've done some speed tests with both Globe sim cards. I'll get the results up later

Last Year my wife used supersurf to video skype call me. It stopped after 8gb usage. Speed was good enough to have good quality video.
I checked the globe website at the time and it said 8GB fair usage policy.
Guessing they have changed it maybe.
Sorry if they have. When I went in November to get married I really didn't use much data so didn't notice.

No worries. Fastest speed ive had with supersurf was 3mbs when I was out. Fastest ive had with gosurf was 6mbs that was at home.
0.02mbs gosurf 3g sim at home
0.2mbs supersurf 4g sim at home
Every time I tested both it was showing H+.
Cant test side by side because the wifes phone wants the sim password, her phone is the same as mine and same three contract so dont know why its asking for sim password unless its because the sim cards first when in my phone so codes itself to the first phone it goes in

Wouldn't worry about that 1GB per day thing, seriously unless you're streaming movies (I'd wager you won't get connection fast enough to do that, even if you wanted to) then there's no way you'd use that amount in a day :icon_lol:
That's more than my usage in a month here - and every weekday I browse news sites and "flipboard", send messages using imessage, check out facebook and receive e-mails at work. I say all that just as an example of what can build up data usage.
This of course is relating to phone data usage, not if you take a laptop, that might be considerably more.
