Changes to visa process for applicants travelling to the UK

The new Biometric Residence Permits (BRP) will be launched and rolled out for all UK visa applicants in the Philippines who intend to stay for longer than 6 months.

From 31 May 2015 visa applicants travelling to the UK for more than 6 months will start being issued with a 30 day sticker in their passport. Applicants will need to travel to the UK within the specifically indicated 30 day validity and then collect their BRP from a post office within ten days of arrival in the UK.

This means It's very important to provide an accurate travel date as part of the visa application. The individual 30 day travel window given will be based on the information declared in the application form. Failure to travel within the requested 30 day period will mean applying for a new sticker.

Terpe can you explain how this isn't this catch 22? Neither link on the UKVI has any real insights... How can you know what the answer to your travel date is when the application time isn't guaranteed? What if a date is specified on the application is before the visa is approved?

The current visa processing times give you a 50/50 shot of getting it within 30 working days currently and 95% within 60.

My wifes TB test is 1st June and her IELTS is 4th June and the plan was to have her fly as soon as everything is approved - my wife will be a rather unhappy woman if her visa/passport arrives in the optimistic 6 weeks but she can't travel until 12 weeks waiting for the travel window to open :NoNo:

Or am I missing something obvious here? Or is the only sensible option put 12 weeks in the future on the application?

The wife's suggestion actually seems reasonable - put 12 weeks in the future on the application form - if the visa arrives in 6 weeks then just apply for a new BRP sticker it appears to cost £72.

I have no issue with flights for her because work have already approved the expenses so I just need to tell them what day she needs the ticket so we're working on ASAP timelines.

How can one give an exact date on the visa application form if they don't already know the date when they will or if get the visa or not? According to information it can take up to 13 weeks for the results to come through?
This all seems to me to be a big money making racket for the Embassy, it is just totally unfair

Just for the record - Wifey's visa was approved in 5 weeks and the travel date on the form was entered as 20 Aug 2015 and the vignette in her passport is dated 15 Aug 2015 - 14 Sep 2015.

According to the documentation she received she wont be able to collect her BRP from the post office until 21st Aug, leaving her either Friday the 21st or Monday 24th as the only two possible collection dates without being outside of the 10 day collection rule as she will travel on the 15th Aug 2015.

Washy, don't panic. That 10 day collection rule is applicable ONLY within 10 days of ARRIVAL into the UK.
It's not 10 days from the earliest date of availability.

She'll arrive on the 16th though - but - the BRP earliest collection is the 21st.
