Labour caused this problem in the first instance.
Had they got in the other week the bum boats of economic migrants from Africa would be getting a Royal Navy escort straight to Plymouth.

Let's hope companies are actually properly fined/owners jailed too, instead of receiving the slap on the wrist they've become accustomed to.

400,000-900,000 Illegals in the country at the last count. No staff to chase them down. Deportation is less than 0.001% of those numbers.
We have enough legislation to get rid of illegals, but we do not employ enough people to do the job. It is that simple.

Maybe do Keith but I'm all for new laws powers etc to at least start to get to grips with stuff like this. Hopefully we can look to ban the burka in time ☺

As I say, we already have more than enough laws to deal with illegals. We can fine the employer, and deport the illegal. You don't need more laws, we just need to enact the ones that we have. Find them, fine them, deport them. So easy..... if they had enough staff. Manpower is the answer, not more meaningless laws.
grahamw48
21st May 2015, 10:27
It doesn't take many staff to send a company employing illegals a bill for their fine...and no extra cost for it being a £10,000 fine instead of a £1,000 wrist-slap.
Where there is a will, there is often a cheap and efficient way.

Obviously the Govt don't feel it is that simple - they are going to create a new offence of "illegal working" and extend the “deport first, appeal later” scheme to all immigrants thought to be in the UK illegally. Under coalition the Cons were stymied by the limp wristed Liberals now the gloves can come off

The problem with deportation is that it takes so long, costs a lot of money, and a number of them just come straight back to the UK. :doh
I would imagine the 'appeal later' will be against the Human Right's law.
Good to see the government controlling the borders :xxgrinning--00xx3: Both Tories and Labour have proved they have little power over the EU. With the economy picking up, that means MORE migrants. Hence the rise this year, and that trend will continue.

That's the same open door policy as the Tories have used, due to EU laws the Tories signed us all up for in '92 :doh
The Tories success on immigration is as good as the promise they made not to increase VAT :cwm24:
Don't forget folks, Teresa May is now planning how to stop people like us from bringing our wives over, as she said that she is going to put a big dent in the number of non-EU migrants. Would that be the same open door immigration policy that was relentlessly pursued 1997 - 2010 :Erm::Erm: :-
Labour threw open Britain's borders to mass immigration to help socially engineer a "truly multicultural" country, a former Government adviser has revealed.

Would that be the same open door immigration policy that was relentlessly pursued 1997 - 2010 :Erm::Erm: :-
Labour had no choice, nor would the Tories if they had been in power, as is clearly evident now. The Tories signed the open border policy, and the new countries that it would apply to who would join the EU happened during the Labour years. It takes about a decade for a country to be integrated, and most of them who would join were known during Major's term. If the Tories had won in '98, then the EU law on open borders would have applied to them, and the same flow the eastern European countries would of still happened.
As Cameron is suffering from the same problem as Blair, due to the Tory signing of the open border policy, then you can't blame Blair or Cameron for what Major did, as they both are handcuffed by EU law.
grahamw48

Correct Keith.
Some of us voted against joining the EU/and all its other names many years ago and have kept to that anti-EU stance over the years...realising what we as a nation would have to forfeit.
Any party or politician who is pro-EU is one I don't vote for.

That ideas plain nasty. Yes take the hard won (albeit illegal) wages from some very badly paid guy. No, instead we should be going after the bigger targets
Fine anyone employing an illegal worker a minimum of 10k PLUS all legal costs and costs of deporting said worker.
Complain it's hard to tell? No it isn't, you ask for their passport and no stamp = no employ. It is not rocket science.
Introduce a law so that ONLY degree producing universities and maybe council ran technical colleges can take in foreign students from outside the EU, and these must be recognised useful degrees. Have an end to the college of typing studies, c/o Ramjamfullers Kebab shop. Tighten that so that if said students don't turn up to two lectures in a row, they have to inform the home office.

Take their wages and ship them out, there are already £10k fines for employing illegals the problem is most of them are never paid. Anyone employing illegals should be jailed then banned from running a business for life. It's all very well feeling sorry for the badly paid illegal but at the end of the day he his keeping legal workers out of a job and giving his employer an advantage over law abiding firms.
I've spent two years badgering and meeting the Police and latterly the local council over a 'Stani restaurant that has been raided twice with 4 illegals nabbed (claiming they're students, temporarily staying there etc) . 2 were shipped out and the owner is involved in appeals and judicial reviews over the other two - I can't be told the full SP because of these legal angles, data protection etc. I've learned that as the rules and laws stand now it is hard and frustrating to enforce. I doubt if any fines will be paid particularly as the place has just started trading under a different name - standard ploy I'm told and they're surprised it took him this long. The only plus side is being told that sticking my oar in has improved the relationship & communication locally between Immigration Enforcement, the Police & Council.

Sorry Dedworth you turned the immigration debate into a political football by laying all the blame at Labour's door :ReadIt:
Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that any governments hands are tied when it comes to European migration so constantly blaming the Labour Party all the time is ridiculous
But isn't the biggest problem that if any illegals are caught, how do you prove which country they are from to send them back to ?? The first thing they do if they arrive here by legal means before overstaying is to get rid of their passport.
I suggest a big holding compound somewhere in Slough :) where they are held until they can provide the genuine information as to which country they belong to. Obtain new passport then get rid. Of course the holding centre can't be too nice or they will never leave.
The funniest story that I did read in newspapers + was on the radio and TV was last year some time, some guy that we had been trying to deport for years, he had children born in this country but somewhere still managed to deport him, on the way to the airport he remembered that he was homosexual and would be in danger of his life if he was returned. The van had to return him to wherever he had been held. Anyone know how this turned out ??
