Now she wants to give Ofcom the powers to censor TV programs before they go out
Changing Ofcoms powers from regulator into a censor are a step in the wrong direction
These power hungry Tories think nothing of restricting free speech :NoNo:

I would like to see a lot more of the garbage on TV to be censored...and even more on the internet, for the sake of our children if nothing else.

Depends on who is doing the censoring and to what extent
Its a slippery slope I feel and sooner or later these politicians will just try and use it to gag their opponents

Nice to see Sajid Javid slapping down May on this stupid idea
Saijid Javed has informed Cameron that he could not back May on changing the fundamental principles as to what Ofcom does.......

You're quite comfortable with the treasonous BBC pandering to vile Anjem Choudray then?

Yes quite right that vile creature shoots himself in the foot every time he opens his mouth
Give him more airtime and sooner or later he will overstep the mark and then he can be arrested
Banning him from TV will just give him more kudos amongst his supporters

That job is actually the responsibility of the parents. Passing the buck on to the government is a lame excuse for a lazy parent. It is easy to manage what you kid can see on the TV and internet. It's no different to the parent controlling if their kid is smoking, drinking, :Sex:, it is not the responsibility of the government.

No, it's not at all easy. I think you're a decade or two out of date on that one.

...and governments are there to GOVERN.

Of course it is easy. Controlling the internet is easy, most people just can't be bothered learning how. As for the TV, it has been around for over 50 years, and my parents controlled what I watched. Bring back the Woodentops :Hellooo:

When we (and my son) were at school the rest of the kids didn't have various phones or tablets connected to the internet either.

What about when children go to friends' houses ?

There is far too much smut and filth being put out by our mass media...like that stupid and distasteful 'Book it' advert.
Why should a government permit this pandering to the lowest common denominator in society ? Why not try to give a boost to GOOD behaviour and personal achievement , while rooting out the gutter stuff ?

You can't protect kids from everything, no matter how many rules a government has. We all remember Page 3 at school, looking for 'naughty' things in biology books, porn mags at a friends house, etc. But parents can control the majority of stuff a kid sees, even today.

We certainly do not need Big Brother to decide what can and cannot see or do.

I disagree.

Parents certainly can't control most of what their children see.

Please explain how. :Erm:

TV in the living room only, and blocker software and apps on all internet access. Simple.

They'll just get next doors wifi code, access mobile data or as Graham says go to another germs house

Next doors WiFi code would make no difference, nor would mobile data, the software is on the home computer or phone! :doh It helps if people educate themselves in how technology works.

As I pointed out earlier, kids have accessed the real world away from there parents for thousands of years and have seen things they shouldn't. But the parents can still control what they see and do on there own tech and premises, as has happened for thousands of years as well, so why do we need to change the rules now? :Erm:

Don't have kids if you'll have problems like these that you are all afraid of! Simples! :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Or if you want to control every move your kids will make or what their environment would do to them, live alone in a forest or somewhere away from civilisation. Look what the Amish did, no tv, internet and everything we enjoy today, but of course most of you here would also be against it.

All they need do is get another phone or tablet without their parents knowledge - prison inmates find it quite easy

:Erm: And they have the money to do this? It was much cheaper and easier buying a porn mag back in the 70's :doh

Stop giving kids these gadgets then, or don't lend them your stuff. All the kids need are books and educational tv shows (if there's none on TV, buy DVDs!). With regards to computers, let them use it only for school work and with your supervision. It's the parents' faults if kids spend more time with adult gadgets.

You are underestimating kids Keith. They would have no problem circumnavigating preventive measures. I guarantee if I was a lad of about 11 I'd have no problem finding anything on the Internet. There again I do remember finding my dad's stash of mucky books. One by one they became mine lol

You're underestimating my knowledge of tech, I can program the damn things. There is plenty of software around that prevents hardware from being used incorrectly. You are overestimating the tech knowledge that kids have, they are not hackers, they are rare.

When you use a browser, it is just programming language that allows access to certain IP and domains. This can easily be changed, and if software is hardcoded to allow only certain sites to load, then it cannot be hacked unless the kid knows how to do base code editing with machine instructions. That is not going to happen in 99.9999999% of kids.

In the 70`s my mum put a lock on the phone.. We soon found out how to hack it though without removing the lock.
Made the odd mistake though..Once woke up some miserable Australian bloke "at 2 in the morning",he said!
Mum still moaned about the bills... "Cant blame us" we said... You put a damned lock on the phone...
Misunderestimate kids at your peril!!

Remember when they use to ban the IRA from talking on TV
An actor use to do some voice over :doh
I hope we don't ever return to that is was just ridiculous
I am sure most kids of today can work out that Anjem Choudary is just evil
