3 Spitfires and 2 Hurricanes roared into the local airfield late this afternoon. Had a chat to a couple of the pilots - good blokes

Apologies for the quality of pics

The pilot told us the Spit with the flames coming out on start up is a Mk 16 & has clipped wingtips and was designed for ground attack. The one taxi-ing (with a guy sitting on the tail ) flew 143 operational missions

Fantastic. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

That later model would have had the much more powerful later Griffin engine, wouldn't it ? (2000 + hp). :cwm24:

I think you're right Graham - bit about it here http://www.telegraph.co.uk/history/world-war-two/9828719/Spitfire-reaches-for-the-sky-again-60-years-on.html awesome sound from only about 10 yards away when he fired it up - 37 litres of British Beef

They'd flown in from Biggin Hill. Earlier were supposed to do a flypast over Buckingham Palace for Trooping the Colour but that was cancelled due to low cloud base

The chap I know was a first officer on Concord, or the paper boy as he calls it. Due to the fact that it used to land in NY 2 hours before it took off so a 10am flight out of Heathrow landed at 8am in JFK with the morning papers
