Will this affect our wives whatever they they do if they don't have FLR. We are still applying for the spouse visa. Does this mean in six years she will have to leave if she isn't earning enough. I'm not sure how to take this this.

The article doesn't just talk.about nurses but other low paid immigrants.

Short answer, No

A Home Office spokesman said: “There are exemptions to the £35,000 threshold for occupations where the UK has a shortage. But the independent .Migration Advisory Committee .recommended against adding nurses to the list after taking evidence from groups including the Royal College of Nursing. Employers have had since 2011 to prepare for this.”

My wife isn't a nurse or a true skilled worker Simon.

I'm scared. Do I need to think about giving up. She won't earn that in six years.

It shouldn't affect those married to a British Citizen or those who have already become British Citizens!:Erm:

Sorry Cheekee, I'm not qualified to even guess at that answer.

What I can say is NEVER think about giving up

Maybe if you were to tell us the immigration status of your wife and what you're applying for, someone on here will offer some better advise for you :xxgrinning--00xx3:

The way I read the article was that it was only for people RECRUITED from outside the EU, and they can apply for ILR after 5 years

Surely this is only of concern to those here on work visas ?

Anyway, the low-hanging fruit being targeted by our cowardly govt, as usual.

Meanwhile all the parasites, terrorists and religious troublemakers will be treated with kid gloves.
We have been rendered helpless in our own country by signing up to the EU disaster zone. :NoNo:

Put such thoughts right out of your mind Phil.
Your wife's immigration journey is not in any way impacted.

I suspect that due to the shortage of British nurses and the unsuitabilty of Euro Trash they'll be a rethink and the occupation will be put on the exemption list. Anyway they can apply for ILR after 5 years. We need a points based Aussie type system for all immigrants, it still amazes me that most petrol station cashiers are Indian - I thought the sham colleges were being hammered

Been reading this and am worried, as I have a son and husband if ever I'll be sent back home.
I hope this doesn't affect the ones that are married to a British and I've been here since June 2013 ...
It's unbelievable! How can immigration consider it? It's all about money.

I've just been reading up a bit more on this - looks like it affects those who've come in on Tier 2 Visas after 6/4/2011. At their recent jamboree the RCN voted 99% in favour of this resolution :-

That this meeting of RCN Congress calls on the UK Government to withdraw plans for the forced removal of non-EU nurses if their salary after five years is less than £35,000.

I'd imagine the Govt are rethinking things now
