OK ... :anerikke: ... it's "old hat" :coucouchapeau: now, but :iagree: with Patrick Grant, Menswear Designer of the Year back in 2010, who hankers after the styles favoured by the likes of Prince Charles and the era of bowler hats and ties.

Here're two [very] rich business tycoons whose shabby appearance (no other words for it) belies their IMMENSE wealth:

Sir Richard Branson ... founder of *Virgin Group (*not literally, of course!)

Sir Brian Souter ........ co~founder of Perth-based Stagecoach Group plc.

:doh ... doubtless there are many, many more of that ilk :icon_rolleyes: - far too numerous to mention here.

What prompted me ro raise a thread such as this, you may wonder?

Well ... on my trawl through the Newspaper headlines, I happened to spot a photo of *Michael O'Leary, Chief Executive of the infamous 'Ryanair'. :airline:

:omg: ... what a "ticket" [pun intended] he looked! Suit - no tie. Shirt buttons undone like Simon Cowell's. Another fancy :censored: billionaire, no doubt. Although *he ain't British ... he's from the Irish Republic.

I don't think it matters these days Arthur, they appeal more to the general public and they appear more approachable! :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Fashion is changing all the time. :xxgrinning--00xx3: What's not acceptable in the past can be acceptable now.

... ties were mandatory in each and every one of the
clerical/administrative jobs I had :olddude:... as were suits.

First thing I notice when I get off the plane after an extended period abroad...what a load of scruffbags inhabit this island. :NoNo:

Quite agree with that. :icon_lol:

My wife made the same comment soon after we arrived in the UK from Japan in 2002

I think a suit jacket with a pair of bootcut jeans look great, but I don't have a suit jacket! :xxgrinning--00xx3:

What about a denim jacket and dress trousers?

The worst combination I've seen on someone is tracksuit bottoms and brogues. :Help1::icon_lol:
