World War II planes - to commemorate :Britain:'s Victory over the Japanese - will fly above our Capital City ... where celebrations will be hosted by HM The Queen later today.

My dad spent a lot of time on ships in the Paciific at that time.
VJ day was also my mother's 18th birthday.
She's just celebrated her 88th...and going strong. :smile:
Here are my dad's (RN) medals from WW2 He joined up as a 15 year-old in 1939, and stayed 30 years....

I know I've probably mentioned it before, but my maternal grandfather served in the army throughout BOTH world wars. :smile:
His son then became a Coldstream Guardsman.. Tall like myself.

According to my brother...the medals left to right are:
1939-45 Star, the North Africa Star (1942-43), the Burma Star, the Italy Star, the Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45, Naval General Service Medal Palestine (post WW2) and the Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
