What is this peculiar ritual :devil-smiley-029: that :Britain: commemorates annually on this date?

Guy Fawkes ... who was this guy? And who, for "fawke's" sake, were his co~conspirators who took part in the notorious- if doomed  - 'Gunpowder Plot' that earned them such lasting historical infamy dating back to exactly 410 years' ago?

Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot...

............................................. :yeahthat:'s what he (Guy Fawkes) and his cronies did of course - albeit in reverse - *died ... in consequence of being 'foiled' ... while attempting to carry out something they had plotted to *do!

Its not a night (or rather time of year) I like, the harm fireworks cause to wildlife and pets let alone people having accidents with them, puts me right off them.

With music festivals etc. we seem to endure them all year now, a sheer waste of money :cwm23:
