Just want to gain some insights and any ones recent experience of the process of bring there wifes child to settle in the UK .

My wife came here on a spouse visa in 2009 and left behind her child with her mom n dad to look after my wife now has dual UK / Filipino citizenship and has been a UK citizen since Jan 2014 and know wants to bring her 6 year old daughter to settle with us in the uk .

Does the fact that the child has been living with mom and dad count against us even though we can prove evidence of remittance support etc

As far as i can make out we need to apply for a " to join family living permanently in the UK "

Any help greatly appreciated.

Your wife is going to have to show (with proof) that she has had sole responsibility for the child.

What about the child's father ? Is his name on the birth certificate ?

Unknown is the best answer and no name on the B.C.

Yes, " to join family living permanently in the UK " is the best starting point.
Here's the link:-

May I also suggest you review this guidance too:-
Children: SET07

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/children-set07/children-set07

Review carefully, there's a good amount of key information.

Better to also refer to the specific Immigration Rules here:-
Look under Children

Probably demonstrating 'Sole Responsiblity' is going to be the key issue.

Once you've reviewed the links feel free to ask specific questions needing clarification.

Does someone know if IELTS is required for an 8 year old? I swear when I was doing my wife's application in August last year I saw he wouldn't need it, but now I can't see any advice saying he won't need it? I've been looking and looking.

We're in a similar situation to mistermatty - my wife is his mother and we support him (well the whole family) and no father recorded on the birth certificate, does that provide any issue?

As far as I am aware the kid does not have to pass the IELTS test. And being as there is no father recorded on the birth certificate there should be no problem.

Thanks for the links Terpe , A minfield of info and am struggling to get my head round some of it , my wifes spouse visa in 2009 was a walk in the park compared to this ....

One question as my wife is the applicant her OWN salary needs to be £22,400 or can that be a combined income with my salary on top ?
