Theres just been an american photo-journalist murdered in dumaguette, got into a drunken argument with a bunch of pinoys and they beat him to death, theres been quite a number of deaths of westerners this past year in the PI,a few of them by construction workers hired to work on dream retirement homes etc, always be a little discrete.

Getting involved in a drunken argument anywhere in the world is a risky business. IMHO

Yup,but theres been quite a few western murders in pinas this year that didnt involve alcohol,it never pays to get too complacent.

Keep your head down and mind your own business.

Yup,always the best way, there was an american and his wife only a couple of months ago, also on negros, murdered by workers and dumped down their well,i think the bodies were discovered by the smell,as you said best to keep ones head down.

Some people just ask for trouble. I was on a forum the other day and there was a couple advertising for an unpaid crew in the Philippines because they had just purchased a yacht and didn't know how to sail. :cwm3:

An old mate of mine,ex-navy and then managing a bar in angeles, was asked by a guy from HK who had sailed his boat over to pinas to scuttle the boat in pinas so an insurance claim could be made,he declined.

Always keep a 'low profile' over there... and remember that YOU are the foreigner, and a guest in THEIR country.
