Sorry I realise this is a bit of a long shot.
I have been quoted for the replacement of a corrugated 'tin' roof and termite eaten trusses.
To me it seems a high charge, although a friend in UK says compared with UK it's cheap.
Any constructive comments from anyone experienced in Philippines would be very much appreciated..

Any constructive comments .....
John
That rules me out then :biggrin:
Fred is usually on the ball with this type of thing. As soon as he can get away from a chilled bottle of Sam Miguel I'm sure he'll give you a good answer. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Hi John.. Its been so long since we did a roof like the one you want that I`m not sure how much use I can be to you accept I do have a rough idea of the cost of items like pre painted roof sheets etc..
Secondly,the sizes on that estimate are confusing me..
126 Sq meters X 800Sq meters ??
42 Sq Meters X 900 Sq Meters?:cwm25:
How many sqr meters total area is your roof?
What is the total area of ceiling to be replaced?
Will the loft have a plywood floor? Plywood thickness?
Here`s a pic and price of the roof sheets that are very common here and same spec on your estimate..
Unfortunately the width is in meters and the length is in feet!!
More fun in the Philippines!
*Ribtype longspan .40mm thickness...1 Mtr width
8ft = P600 per pc. coloroofing min. pick up /
10ft = P750 per pc.
12ft = P900 per pc

Me thinks it should read 126sqm @ 800 pesos per sqm. Roof size 126 sqm.
John, what makes you think the quote is high?

Yep...That sounds right.
Just been reading a blog from 2010 I bookmarked before about construction methods and costs here...Good info on his roof build,including costs back then.
"Cost. The surface area of our roof is about 300 square meters. The total cost of the roof excluding the structural elements but including insulation and installation is about P280,000 or about P700 per square meter. The fiberglass insulation added about P50,000. We were told to expect to pay about P500 per square foot for our roof but using better materials drove the price higher. We have not yet calculated the total cost of the roof structure plus roofing but it must be at least P800,000."

Getting quotes where one lives or from a place where you know people is fairly straightforward, doing so in a 'strange' land, thousands of miles away is not not easy. The quote I have is from a neighbour where the house is, who is known to my wife's mother, cousin etc. whom they trust. Trust as in trusting as a person not as a constructor as they have no experience in that field
Thanks guys, from what you have said here about prices of materials, it would seem that, if I get a good job done, then the price is about right.

Just remember the 'Cowboy Builders' program in the UK. Do not got for friends recommendations. Do extensive research yourself.
