The new qualifying format was rubbish. I don't now why they even changed it.

Hello Rayna, whilst being interviewed Lewis Hamilton was asked about the new Format for qualifying and he said it was perfect for himself but he was aware that fans were not keen on it, his suggestion was to try four different Formats over a period of four qualifying sessions and pick the one that suits both fans and drivers. Good Idea?:Erm:

Well they're scrapping it already and will revert back to the old format in the next race. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Lewis has a penalty for new gearbox so will start tomorrows race in sixth position at the Chinese Grand Prix, will find out later today who will be in Pole position should be a good race as there is plenty of scope for overtaking. I don't care whose in Pole as long as it isn't Nico. Change of plan, Lewis now starting last due to engine problem during qualifying, shame really but I'm sure he'll do plenty of overtaking as long as he doesn't have any more problems.

Sad to say, though I still watch the races, 50% of my interest has gone due to the rubbish-sounding hybrid things they are now driving, and all the petty rules and regulations.

It used to be about brave drivers and monster machines going as fast as possible.

More fun on my Xbox... watching my own replays back !

I can even drive most of the F1 tracks, plus the TopGear test tracks.

Ooops... I meant to post this after Silverstone.

I always want to have a run around the track in something, after seeing the F1. This time in a good old British Ultima. Not as quick as F1s of course, but pretty fast on a flat featureless Silverstone, where it's sometimes difficult to remember exactly where you are on the track !

Is he the best F1 driver since Schumacher? Is he better than Senna?

I'm not an F1 buff but he looks to be a fantastic driver especially since he started this season slowly and now has six wins out of his last seven races.

Apparently this is his 50th win from 180 starts. :appl:

Michael Parnham

If he continues another couple of years maintaining his present standard he could be the best ever, but I think his biggest opposition will be Max Verstappen, a brilliant up and coming winner:Erm:

Just watched Belgian Grand Prix qualifying, misery face is in pole position Max Verstappen in second Riccardo in fifth also Lewis at the back due to mechanical penalties, I think tomorrow's race should be a very exciting one, there will be plenty of overtaking for Lewis Hamilton and I'm sure Daniel Riccardo and Max Verstappen will put pressure on Rosberg, the two Ferrari's will at least maintain their third and fourth positions. Really looking forward to tomorrow's race.:xxgrinning--00xx3:

Spa is one of my favourite tracks, both for watching, and for driving on my Xbox. Very fast and thrilling, with a compromise between downforce and top speed needed for the several long straights, or near-straights.

You'd be amazed at the level of driving sensation you get now, when using a good 'force-feedback' wheel and pedal set-up... like when you get launched from one side of the road to the other when cresting l'Eau Rouge. :drivingx:

I've just finished replicating the set-up I built here, but in 'knock-down kit' form, which can be fitted within a large suitcase and taken to the Phils with me. :)

I have an extra wheel to take too of course... not shown here.

grahamw48

I have 'Need For Speed Shift', 'Need For Speed Shift2 Unleashed'.... which is the one above, and also 'Forza Motorsport 4', and 'Forza Horizon2'

All great games, but with different tracks and cars.

Monza is only on the NFS series, for instance.

Forza additionally has a great graphics customisation feature.

Rainy day pastime.

Again, imagine graphics to be 10 times better quality and very realistic, which they are on the TV screen. I also have full 'force feedback' through the motorised steering wheel, so kerbs, collisions etc can be felt .

Naturally I am trying to avoid touching the other vehicles, as the result would be the same as in real life (apart from me not being dead. lol) .

In this case the idea is to do a lap faster than the other cars.

Once met Jackie Stewart at a Ford Dealership in Peterborough about 1980 was invited by the then Manager who lived next door to me at that time and Jackie Stewart was showing film of various races he had raced and one thing that I always remember was that he explained how important it was that an item as small as a matchstick on track could be so lethal on bends at high speed when driving on slick tyres he tried to explain what it felt like trying to control a car when driving over such tiny objects, all in all it was a great experience to meet him and listen to the amazing things he had to say about his F1 life, a very nice man indeed:xxgrinning--00xx3:

It must have been great to meet a driving legend like JS.

I do take issue with people who say that this driver was the best of all time though. Agreed, that Fangio was great 'of his era', but there have been many greats.... of their own era. 'Success' can be measured in events won, world championships gained, points in a season, like Schumacher, Senna etc etc But all time best...?

Let's take this a little further, my ex wife at the time was the best wife ever, but times move on and now her crown fits better on Emma's head, ok my head may fit better on a serving tray in her eyes, but do you get my drift :cwm3:

Flying back from Manila a couple of years ago I was in the Emirates lounge in Dubai, when I looked up I saw Sterling Moss and his wife sat opposite me. Did a double take but didn't want to disturb their privacy by saying hello.

Nice one:xxgrinning--00xx3:

Looks like we're heading for a nail-biting end to the season... which has to be good. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

I don't know why, but that Austin circuit does nowt for me, though it's probably challenging for the drivers. So many other great circuits in the States that could have been used. :anerikke:

I do hope he can get his head together and get the result I feel he deserves.

C'mon Lewis. :Jump:

In many ways it's largely in the hand of Nico, but I'm sure Lewis is feeling on top of the world from his Brazillian win

Thank you Peter, it seems there's only yourself and Graham interested apart from myself, I always thought most men took an interest in F1, yes I agree good luck to Lewis because for him to win now Nico has got to be lower than third position at the next race:xxgrinning--00xx3:

:icon_sorry:, Michael ... NOT me :nono-1-1: ... 'fraid I once had a lady friend who [seemed] more interested in the type of *Grand Prix you're referring to than the readily available 'F('n)1' of *mine! :bigcry:

I once was very interested, going to the British grand prix a few times, but like anything in life it changes, too much money, same old same, and then it becomes boring to a few, and I am afraid I am one of the few.
I am no expert at all about this but when the races was won on the track they was exciting times now its won on a computer and a pit stop.

I am a total fan of F1, there are more of us out there you know. I only subscribe to the sky sports channels so i can watch all the Grand Prix races live. The BBC only have a handful of races a year that are live. You can not beat watching live racing.
I can see Steve's point about actually being at the circuit and watching the live racing, i have been there and a few things can spoil the day like the weather or missing most of the action as you can only see about an eighth of the circuit. I found that getting out and back on the A43 and then M1 used to be a major nightmare and being stuck in traffic for hours did not help the experience of the day.

Bring back manual transmission, that will sort out the men from the boys.

We use to have the whole weekend at the circuit, it was fun if there was a gang of you, but like you say if it rained then it was crap for you but very exciting watching the cars,
It could turn out to either be a great weekend or a crap expensive weekend, what spoilt it too was when they stopped you doing the pit walk also.

More exciting and better sounds on my Xbox !

And there is the problem, just like you say about the £100 we was paying that years ago if you wanted to go into the stands, Joe public pays through the nose for things like this it's all for the rich and corporate deals these days.

They're already racing electric ones.

Each to their own, but I prefer noisy piston-power... and a bit of individualism... bearing in mind that it was the innovation of individuals like Colin Chapman, founder of Lotus Cars, that greatly contributed towards current open-wheel race car design... not a computer programme.

Do you remember BRM of Bourne Lincolnshire Graham? If I remember rightly I'm sure that they built the type of car you would have liked, a V16 sports car, can't remember what model it was though:Erm:
