Hi guys.
My wife Just got her first job. At the moment she has been put on tax code OT as she never worked her before so doesn't have a P45.
I know OT can be used as an emergency code or a temporary one. This means she is paying basic rate.
Just wondered as being foreign working on a spouse visa, I she entitled to the same tax free allowance as a British citizen?
Thanks for any help or advice.

Yes she is.
Gone through this with my wife. She was on the OT tax code for 3 months. In the end She phoned the tax office, I spoke on her behalf after they asked her her details. And they gave her a normal tax code. They also wrote to her work to inform them of the correct tax code.
However my wifes work are rubbish and we have been chasing her tax rebate for months. In the end we contacted the tax office again and they said after the 6th of April they will post a cheque out to my wife.... we are still waiting.

Thanks Slip.
This is her 3rd week of working. Should we wait a little longer or just phone the tax office ?

After the first six months of my wife working I called the tax office and they just asked to speak to her first to get permission that it was ok for me to deal with her tax issues, anyway a code arrived within two days also the NHS received one at the same time. Reference the question about tax refund it was paid in her salary after a month or so and it was quite a large amount :xxgrinning--00xx3:

I called the HMRC in the end.
Got her tax code sorted.
Hopefully that's it now.

I've been in telephone contact with HMRC for quite a few months in connection with my tax codes and the tax I'm paying.
I worked for HMRC for quite some time.
It's not what it used to be. Call centre staff just don't have any technical knowledge at all and will never admit their mistakes.
I'll now need to start all over again with my double taxation option and then reclaim all my overpaid tax..................:NoNo:
