We all know these ubiquitous colourful modes of transport only too well.
Not much to say on the positive side except they are cheap and plentiful......too plentiful some would say especially those that belch fumes all day long.
Seems there's a modernization plan afoot with intentions to get rid of all those jeepneys over 15 years old.
I also hear that permits will not be issued to jeepney operators with less that 8 vehicles in their fleet.
All owner/drivers of a single vehicles will be out.
I just wonder how on earth the millions of commuters will mage their daily transport grind.
Anyway her's the latest report:-

You cant announce a smoking ban and seriously consider not banning Jeeps!!
Ban smoke belching buses and lorry`s too!
Bikes and cars under 10 years old only IMHO!

A great plan , and i dont think it shall ever happen,
When we went up north to Bongabon i did see closed in jeepneys, i think they was Mitsubishi or something like that, and they did look rather smart, just as long as a jeepney but new .

Vehicles under 5 years old would be better:xxgrinning--00xx3:

Most Jeepneys just need their engines tuning/updating. We have two. Both are quite old but refurbished bodies and many mechanical components. They don't appear to pollute too much (visible pollution, not comment on NOX/particulates).
One of the drivers was complaining, telling me his needed a new engine as it was 'low on power' and overheating. I disagreed after following him from Lobo to Batangas City over the mountain. I had trouble keeping up with him up the windy road, no exhaust smoke at all (or that smell you get from badly tuned diseaseals). He stopped at the top because the temperature was too high. I had a closer look, it wasn't losing water or steaming. Hmm, firstly fit an electric fan override switch so it cools when you want it to, secondly open up the grille (hardly any airflow due to a fancy chrome cover), oh, and drive it sensibly its not a sports car. Of course he has done none of these as he is a Filipino man and won't listen to me because he knows better. Luckily he mostly drives it around town and doesn't have this problem there.

Yes i can understand the thinking behind the replacement in the Cities, but as for NOT allowing Owner Drivers or 1 vehicle Operators up in the Mountain ranges of Bukidnon & elsewhere surely thats impractical, how the heck can people get there supplies moved on Motorcycles..

Japan has some cool shorty buses which would suit the Philippines perfectly. Only challenge is the cost to buy them, mind you a decent Jeepney is over 400,000 anyway. Not small change
