WHY ...? I :cwm24: ... wonder, should this be the case, almost 20 years' after the island's sovereignty was handed over from :Britain: to China?
Last year, my nephew on my late first wife's side moved *there with his partner and three kids.
Seemingly, he and his brood are as "happy as Larry" in their new surroundings.
Admittedly ... :anerikke: ... Michael - at 47, and a graphic designer by profession - can no longer be considered young.
But, in marked contrast, here is a link to an article from a young native HK graduate, who has a much less optimistic story to tell:

I had a great time working and living there in the 90s.
Sometimes wish I'd stayed there and got my permanent residency !

I think it may well be a case of not having so much freedom as what they used to have when HK was under British rule, There can be no doubts that being under Chinese rule brings with it a little more shall we say Dictatorship, and less personal freedom than what they used to have. I have visited China 5 times, and had the opportunity to work there a couple of times, but in the end i bottled it...

I doubt if the kids today actually knew how much freedom there was in the Brit days as they were not even born...

Never been to Stanley, strangely enough.
That pic was taken at Pui O Beach on Lantau island... where I had an apartment after I brought the family over.
