Here is a thread of real poverty in Britain in the 60s.

Not so long ago is it and many of us were born in the time too, but if we lived in so called poverty did we really know it, or were we too busy playing and having not one care in the world?

My dad was in the navy then, when the forces were still poorly paid. Mother was at home full-time taking care of us 4 kids.

We had no car, no phone and no central heating. Dad was away at sea most of the year. There were times when we did feel poor, though happy and well looked after. Then again, there were always those who couldn't manage their money, or had kids who were little brats. Often the two going together of course... with their dad out boozing, and mother maybe at work in a factory most of the time.

Being 'poor' doesn't mean you have to have low standards of behaviour.
