I imagine few :cwm25: - if ANY - here will have heard of the guy.

Tbh ... :anerikke: ... NEITHER had I! :NoNo:

Born in 1949, he'd been stricken with polio (a virus that was rife back then!) when only 3 months' old, and spent his childhood (indeed, the rest of his life) confined to a :wheelchair:, before passing away on October 15 at the age of 68.

Yet, undeterred by the debilitating mobility restrictions of his condition, this modest, unassuming gentleman ... "Bert" (as he was known to those with whom he was familiar) ... went on to campaign tirelessly for disabled rights - earning himself the honour of a well~deserved knighthood in 2007, as "a champion of social justice".
