Went out for a meal with a friend today, went into town, we were going to go somewhere decent'ish, we actually passed the Ivy, but you wouldn't get a chance at a table this time of year without a reservation, so we went into Westminster and ended up having steak in the Hippodrome. So we finished eating, my mate said he fancied going downstairs and chancing a few quid on a table, he was in last week and ended up walking out with £17,000. Played the tables today and lost £800 in ten minutes. I gave him a few disapproving 'I-told-you-so' looks as I drank my coke. We walked out just over an hour later, he had £10 grand in his pocket. :cwm24: "Life's a gamble", he always says. :icon_lol:

Knew someone who won over £80k on one visit to a casino. He lost it all within a few weeks by going back (as they do).

This brings to mind an old saying a Bookie friend once said, "We can do without the Bookies/Casinos - they can't do without us".

What does he play? Roulette?

He loves poker, but yesterday was roulette. He won the £17k last week at poker, it was a good day yesterday.

Thing with gamblers. They tell you when they win big. Never tell you when they lose big.
I knew a bloke always went on about all the big wins he had. But he was always in debt because he always ended up losing it in the end.

True that, but this bloke's always told me when he has lost, it is part and parcel of the game, he has no debts whatsoever. I know that, got a few quid

Anyone who loses 100k in a year and plays roulette at a casino isn't the smartest cookie in the jar. Perhaps he should give up gambling.

Nice house in Surrey, enviable lifestyle, 5'ish holidays in a year, very good business savvy, he is a smart cookie. :icon_lol: Poker is his favourite, he played the tables because it filled in an hour after lunch

I'm talking in a gambling sense. He didn't make his money from roulette did he?

Nah, poker. Gamblers are like that. I hang around with a couple, they take chances, unlike the normal 9-5 guy. Gamblers are wired differently, it's just how it is.

All his wealth just from poker despite losing 100k in one calendar year? :Erm:

I never said all his cash comes from gambling, the 100k was from when he had his racehorse

That sounds more feasible.
There's a racehorse called Onlyfoolsownhorses too. Great name! :icon_lol:
