Using my wife's laptop ... my Dell desk top won't allow me access. Here is the message appearing on my monitor:
'User Profile Service failed the login
User profile cannot be located, :doh!'
First time anything like this has happened.

Thanks for the link, Jamie. :yeahthat: problem I've encountered seems to be a particularly nasty type. Snag is ... :anerikke: ... I'm pretty clueless when it comes to making ANY meaningful sense of computer jargon. :bigcry:

What about your son? Does he live local?
If not, ask Les to come up in his taxi. He knows about computers. :icon_lol::wink:

Don't know what windows your running Arthur, but you tube is your friend. This one hopefully will help, it's for Windows 7. But I'm sure they have similar for other versions.

You're not alone Arthur, If anything happened to mine I would throw it in the bin and just buy a new computer even though I can't afford one. I know nothing about computer jargon, don't know how to back up or do anything like that cant even use my printer properly, don't know what scan does or how to copy in colour or do anything.

Why`s that Michael?? Too lazy too learn?
It`s like owning a car and not knowing where the petrol cap or engine oil cap
is located.

Blinkin computers. I just take mine to pieces and then try to remember how to put it back together again.
Just like a car really, without needing axle stands and a trolley jack.

And just like with the car do you always have 1 or 2 nuts and bolts left over and wonder where they came from? :icon_lol:

Thanks too, for your link :cwm25: ... which I also tried to follow on Myrna's laptop without success, for the very same reason(s) I've explained to Jamie. :icon_sorry:!
However, I'd like to express my gratitude to BOTH of you - and to Fred - for your efforts on my behalf.

Yeah... but if your computer crashes because of it... it's gonna be less painful . :icon_lol:

Keith has fixed the same thing in the past (his mum's laptop) I think. You need a computer savy person to help you Arthur if you can't do it yourself.

Thanks, Rayna ... yes, you're right. Luckily, I've a nephew who lives locally and, like Keith, being an IT specialist, he fixed things in 5 minutes' flat, yesterday afternoon.
Actually, I'd been trying to contact him since Friday to no avail ... only to learn from his dad (my brother) that Stuart had given up his landline phone in favour of a mobile, as he's more often out than at home. So at least I know how to get in touch with him more easily in the event of a recurrence.
Enjoy your holiday. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Along similar lines.
How can I see what email address is registered in the forum for me?
Even though I tick the box to be informed when there is a comment, I no longer get a mail.
I was wondering if I was registered in an email which I no longer use.
Thanks Guys
