Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has told the Philippines not to put a US missile system on its land. At the same time, Wang and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said it's important to keep good relations, even though tensions are increasing in the South China Sea.

Hmm:Erm:, but it is fine for China to place such systems on islands that do not belong to them under international law. :anerikke:

China are not happy. The US is building new airfields on Pacific Islands, and making changes in Japan. I would think it is in the interests of the Philippines to welcome back the US fleet and air force. I've heard the latter is being planned. I wonder if they want Clark back? :cwm25:

....and as if the US was listening to me, this was just announced....

"The US is strengthening its alliance with the Philippines by providing military funding and forming a new agreement because of concerns about China. A Philippine official said that during talks in Manila, US officials will announce $500 million to enhance the Philippines' defences and progress on a proposed military pact."

I wonder how much will make it to the military. :Erm:

If The Phils hadn't asked the Americans to leave their bases back in 1990/91, the Chinese bullying would never have started. :NoNo:

It looks like the current leader of the Philippines has the intelligence to bring them back. That's a good thing. Plus, all those single Filipina's will find a hubby if the US moves back. :Sex:
