hello everyone , i will be posting on a few threads across this site to share experiences and hopefully obtain advice from others here , but first i would like to tell a little of my story :cwm38: , i have recently returned from the Philippines after spending a wonderful time with my new fiancee , Fretche , who is a beautiful , intelligent , funny and warm filipina :) - i am seeking advice on how to proceed from here and am studying the threads on fiancee visas etc very closely , i certainly would like to make the arrangements for Fretche to come here as soon as possible :cwm38: , anyway i am 35 , live in Sheffield , Yorkshire , am a civil servant so i have been reading Government rules and regulations but i suppose i really want to hear the real stories from filipino and western people who have been through the system themselves - hope this is a fair start and look forward to speaking to as many of you as possible , salamat , thanks

thanks everybody , sorry for not responding sooner - andypaul , i have been staying in Davao City recently with Fretche and her family and will post about my experiences generally in the City as there are some worrying reports on this forum about the area , and the UK Government is still not recommending travel to Mindanao as a whole , which i think is adding to an unfair reputation for the island - will post more details elsewhere soon - cheers all , Calvin

I will gladly read any information, about travel in Mindanao, as I will be going to Cagayan de Oro City in June & possibly travelling down, to about an hour away from Davao?...Look forward to your posts.

Cagayan de Oro is reasonably safe even at night. You can walk around the city square and surrounding streets and apart from the street sellers and beggars, no one will bother you. They have what they call "night cafe" every Friday and Saturday night in the city square with street barbeques, live bands and market stalls and it's a really enjoyable night out.

Yes I'd heard of "night cafe"...Infact it's one of the many things I'm really looking forward too. Love that type of stuff...Goes on to the early hours I believe.
It's always good to hear real peoples experiences. Thanks very much :)

I have been to Northern Mindanao quite a few times & lived there for a while without any problems. There is an element of risk like anywhere in the Philippines but unless you are heading deap South/South West there should be no problems.
I can put you in contact with someone who has much experience and has lived in Davao for a few years if you like..
