I was just wondering if, anyone has installed satellite TV where you can pick up Pinoy or any other Philippine channels. I want to install here in the U.K, I was able to install in Kuwait no probs and, would think it was the same here except the COST!
I love to watch Tagalog programs and films and, comedy especially.

For a first start, you can susbscribe to their internet TV. It's the less costly system. It work fine on a broadband connection. You have several rate for the subscription depending on what you want to see:
See here: http://now.abs-cbn.com/
For TFC Europe, you will need a satellite dish and receiver, and a decoder with a subscription. I just find the rate expensive to receive only 4 channels (it's as expensive as what I pay for 350 channels here...) but it's up to you.
See here: http://www.abs-cbnglobal.com/
To locate a dealer for installation: http://www.abs-cbnglobal.com/Regions/Europe/LocateaDealer/UnitedKingdom/tabid/273/Default.aspx
ABS-CBN Europe contact infos: http://www.abs-cbnglobal.com/Regions/Europe/ContactInfo/tabid/201/Default.aspx
To have ideas in pricing:
- on internet: 13$usd/month (outside broadband subscription),
- on satellite: last time I checked 2 years ago it was 200€ for the decoder and 25€/month for access to the 4 channels (outside of satellite dish/receiver buying and installation cost)

£27.00 per month for a 12 month contract, for only 5 channels, TFC 2 general entertainment channel, including Wowowee, Game Ka na Ba ? ANC news, Pinoy Central, and Tagalog movies.
Some think its expensive, and they would be right.

Hi,
We've got TFCko , basically video on demand . You get all your favorite programs backdated by a few hours , you can pause , stop ,m rewind etc.
Missus thinks its great , there is literarly 1000s of hours of the latest TV/Movies to watch - everything is archived so for example your Mahal can watch all of last weeks Wowwowee in one go !!!
Its transmitted via broadband and then uses Wifi to connect between PC and desk top set
Costs £19 per month plus £80 for the box - you can get from Pinnoy Mall

You can watch it on youtube. however I must warn those who watch, I had YOUTUBE threaten to terminate my account and forced me to remove most of my ABS CBN Wowowee videos, because of complaints by ABS T.V. Europe about copywright infringments.
It is illegal to upload ABS CBN T.V. Shows recorded on home webcams or video devices, I found it out the hard way.
If you wish to watch, pay £27.00 a month for 12 months, like I had to.

don't pay monthly subs, pay one off payment of £750. The TV man set up sat receiver for all the channels she wanted and thats it, she can watch all her TV the same time as it's happening in Davao.

I too am considering getting TFCko to stop my wife from getting homesick.
What is the picture quality like on TFCko?
Is it as good as satellite?
Is Pinnoy Mall a uk company? If so then what are their contact details please.

watch out if you use your broadband to watch tv, if you do not have a true 'unlimited' account (usually £20+ a month) your download gb limit will be eaten up quickly and you could be capped or charged :omg:

Hi,
Try googling "pinoy minimall" - its an online Filipino store run by a Filipino and her English husband (Emie & Mark).
Picture quality is pretty good - like watching VHS tapes.
The real bonus is the ammount of programs they have avialable , as I said there must be litearly thousands of hours viewing per week
Also I use o2 broadband - unlimited use and 8Meg Download speed for £7.50 per month , this includes a free WiFi router , so no nasty cables to try and hide !!!

yes i saw martin lewis (moneysaving expert) the other day saying o2 were the cheapest.
still don't forget to include your line rental :cwm24:
part of o2's fair usage policy
"But if you’re using the service excessively – like continually downloading large files at peak times – then we do reserve the right to warn you to lower your usage. In exceptional circumstances, we can even terminate your account.
This is because excessive use by a few people can reduce the speed that other customers in the same area can get. We just want to provide everyone with an excellent level of service."
well i don't know if they do cap you. but for the price, you cant complain.. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Yeah I'm just about to swap to O2 "Unlimited" as well.
I wonder if they consider watching TFCko all day as "using the service excessively" ???

price is good, as i've got a o2 pay n go mobile..
well they said they will warn you, so maybe don't watch it at peak hours if you do get warned, but then thats the time you want to watch it :doh from 6pm til 9 or 10pm :Rasp:
briank

I am hoping O2 will not enforce it either. :)
Actually 6pm-10pm is not when we want to watch ... we are busy watching UK TV together then ...
It's during the day when my wife is alone that she wants to watch Tagalog TV, so hopefully O2 won't mind that. :)

I think its a case of suck it and see.. , you've got nothing to lose untill they try and cap you (if infact they would)
Yep my wife's the same - we try to turn off TFCKo at 5.00pm when I get home , and watch UK TV together .
Great thing about TFCKo is she cant use the excuse "but my favourite program starts in 5 minutes etc" coz she can watch it next day at her leisure - Oh and no adverts , so her 1/2 programs only last 20 minutes.
Where in the UK are you Briank ?

another tihng o2 use Traffic Shaping.
A trick used by all cheaper providers; during peak times or heavy traffic they may cut the speed of your connection. It will be especially noticeable if you’re using peer to peer software (e.g. sharing music files) as this type of traffic gets the least priority. Again for the average user it shouldn’t be a problem but for heavy downloaders it’s worth taking into consideration.

Well, streaming from the internet can be pretty cac, especially when contention rates are high.
The ISP's would have us believe that our broadband is a dedicated resource, but the fact is, that it is a shared resource, and when the kids get home from school is poss that everything can slow up when they all connect to the internet!!
By the way, I am a satellite TV/Cable TV specialist and please feel free to ask any advice.
Streaming from the internet to your TV is by far the most cheapest option of course, although no where near the quality of satellite.
I have a High Definition Motorised system here. and i'ts awesome, although a pain to configure it all :)
If you have someone in the phils with a subscription, you can consider installing what is known as a slingbox.
Do a google search using that keyword for more info!
This little unit connects to the Scart socket of the set top box in the given country, then it can be connected to their broadband connection, and you can then downstream it to your PC/TV
It even gives you remote control capability.
I just set a system up for a German chap.
Ooopssss hehehh.
Here I go on again, but pls ask me anything u like if i can help.
Best of luck.

Roll on Jan for my trip to Cebu, coz i miss her soooooo very much, lol

Like i said we all record this or that, now and then.
But its just the sheer scale of the practise. which is going to have far and wide spread implications for the future which is the issue for me.
I.e people got greedy and now dont realise thats its not fair to record a whole back catalogue of someones work.
If the phill channel which broadcast the show made it possible for the missus to subscribe or pay for a decent quality picture she would.
But if a Phill tv exec wants to sue then i'll ask them to decalre all that they own is puka no boot legs or copies. possibly even the parts in there car would be bootleg wheter they like it or not so would be on iffy ground.

Hmmmmm, yes i can believe that, especially coz is not a worldwide standard.
My place in Peru SA uses BNC/Phonos.
Ok, Scart is only a connectivity standard, and Slingbox doesn't need a Scart.:)
