Miss Gina just told me rice has gone up from P25.00 to P38.00 and rising, she said, they are stockpiling as much rice as possible in the port area of the city to meet the cities demands that is Bacolod City on the Island of Negros.

My Wifes family are fairly safe from everyday rises as family have farms where they grow and sell rice but i can see if the shortage carries on they wil have to be careful of holding back supplies in case the wrong person accuses them of Ecomonic sabaotage!!
Can you imagine the outcry here if the goverment told mac dees and KFC to halve the amount of chips served?

We are paying 32 Pesos here at the moment.
A lot of the price hikes are down to rice hoarders.
The NFA have raided lots of huge warehouses here jam packed full of rice..
The Chinese that get away with it will make a fortune if they dump their stocks on the market now and even more if they wait for a bigger pay day.
Another problem is future restrictions on rice imports which the country depends upon for cheap NFA rice.. India for example are stopping exports completely I believe.

Looks like everywhere is having or gonna have some serious inflation do any of the ex pats know what the goverment bonds are like in phil?
Been advised to tuck a way a few spare quid into the old national savings as inflation is likely to soar here in the west due to all the national banks printing money like there is no tomorrow.
Thinking it maybe worth doing the same for the Phill end of the family as well or not?
