I am unsure of what members have what children, but my wife has recently given birth to our son, James. Initial tests showed him to have G-6-PD deficiency, a condition sometimes referred to as Favism (because such people often have an allergy to Fava beans).

The condition is fairly common in countries with tropical, sub-tropical or mediterranean climates, among them being the Philippines. The condition is related to conditions such as Colour-blindness and the dreaded HaemaPhilia in that it is an hereditary condition carried on the female "X" Chromosome, and usually suffered by males that inherit this chromosome from their mother.

If you have children by a Philippine spouse and find, to your horror, tests show G-6-PD deficiency - then do not panic. Keep a steady head, read all the literature the doc's hand out, and keep up to date with registration and regular visits to the following website:

Best wishes to all of you, especially the parents!

sorry to hear that about your son :cwm24:

were lucky that little joe wasn't, it's easy to take the health of your child for granted, and the little problems we face daily that we make into mountains, are nothing compared to your health and your childs..

best wishes to james :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Sorry to hear about your son's condition but its great to know that you've really informed yourself. It really helps one be calm.

Treatments for G6PD deficiency have come a long way, particularly over recent years.

All the best!

I would like to thank evryone for their good wishes, Kristine and I are very grateful.

I would like to assure everyone James and Kristine are doing fine. It is not a terminal condition, and apart from extra care being necessary over certain foodstuffs and commercial drugs, James should have a perfectly normal life.

Congratulations Ann, on the birth of your James. They often say great minds think alike, and with us both picking the same name for our lads, it seems we think alike too - LOL!
