Guy dead in Bradford now, starting to become nearly 1-a-day. How about MINIMUM tarrifs for carrying a knife (2 years), and the same for using one regardless of outcome (5 years, 20 for murder).

this is the problem in the uk?,its just so easy to get away with crime!

if you carry any weapon you should get put in jail, but use it thats life in jail,as it is the jail time you get is childs play!

its the same with drink driving look how many people get killed by drunk drivers then see what sentence they get!

Couldn't agree more!!

Any intentional crime should mean a severe punishment!!

I actually feel a bit sorry for our coppers 'cos when they do make a big bust (!)
our FARCICAL judicial system goes and spoils it all by 'slapping them on the wrist.'

I have a good friend in Cheshire who was a magistrate. He gave it up because of the sentencing constraints he had to endure.

Life should mean life - and rapists and pedos should be emasculated!!:cwm23:

Sorry, but that's the way I feel.

Al.

The trouble is that there hasn't been enough investment in the prison system under successive governments for decades now and consequently, there isn't anywhere to put them all. We all moan about the level of tax we have to pay in this country, but I for one would be happy to pay a bit extra so that the kind of prison sentences that Keith suggests, or even harsher sentences in my opinion, could be imposed on the kind of people who commit these crimes.

I agree with the fact there is a shortage of space, but I don't agree with having to pay more tax. I suugest they make the prisons less like 5* hotels and more like prisons, and the present budget would be ample.

I just don'e see how we can pay tax for somebody who is supposed to be being punished to allow them to live better than many hard working people or pensioners.

Until prisons are seen as a place of punishment and not just an inconvenient stage in life, there is nothing to deter them.
