urgent Advice needed

Hi ,
Kindly advise me regarding the necessaty of a police check if i recruit a housekeeper. What is that police check is all about? and is it really needed prior to hiring anyone? What is required? i.e shall i take a copy of her passport and take it to the police department?

The Police Check is required for most Nannys and house helps, the applicant must telephone the Information officer of the nearest police force to make an appointment to go in and take their Id's that is Passport etc, the Information officer will then authenticate the ID, and the Police check takes from 2-4 weeks, the cost is £10.00 and the Police check will only tell the employer if the applicant has any criminal convictions or cautions against their name. It is not an enhanced disclosure under CRB.

Also police forces do not talk to each other, so it's basically a waste of time, as we keep discovering if you follow the news. And it definitely picks up no mass murder convictions if they were done abroad.
