Do they grow coffee in the Philippines these days? Plenty of it in Indonesia, but never here of Phil coffee.

I love Bewleys Dark Roast.....just having a cup now

Here in PI, the coffee industry began in 1740 during the Spanish regime.Coffee production is largely concentrated in Mindanao, but dont know the exact places I like JAVA coffee,mmmmm smells so great like i always want more everytime i drink

The oldest Filipino blend is called "Rice 45".
Just take some freshly milled rice and put in a Filipino type wok under a fire or gas stove untill well roasted.
Add hot water,brew and filter..Bobs your uncle,fannies your aunt..Rice coffee.

To be honest..The first 10 cups taste absolutley RANK..
After that,your taste buds become so muted that it actually begins to taste OK..
There must be a caffine content because it is almost as addictive as shabu..
Best served with those short and fat bannanas which have been boiled..(just add sugar)

Most coffee in Asia is very bitter, especially what you buy in Singapore & Japan, but Indonesia manage to produce some excellent quality coffee. Must be the volcanic soil.

My niece is in the Pi no, so may get her to bring back some home grown coffee.

Actually they do in Batangas and in the mountain province. So if you happen to go there you can buy some.I think they are comparable to international standards. Baguio is where they sell those coffee from mountain province.They actually taste good..

You go to Bukidnon where the Monks are growing one of the best Arabica coffee in the country.. (been there once)although nothng compares to Java and Jamaican Blue mountain..!

I only drink Java, fantastic taste. I never buy supermarkets own brands, they are usually blended. Hmmmmmm....time for another cuppa....

Douwe Egberts are 2nd best for me, as long as they are No.5 (strong).

i suggest you order your coffee in one of the coffee shops in notting hill..that's where we get our coffee..try the Jamaican Blue mountain much tastier than Java and of course more expensive i think its £45/kilo

And as coffee goes...

nothing beats a nice double espresso from BO's coffee club....

But at home, I buy roasted coffee beans in 1kg bags, from a Colombian trader. or an Italian importer. The italian guy ends up costing me a fortune in the end... with olives, parma hams, salami, parmesan cheese and anything else that remotely smells of memory lane....
The coffee is invariably 100% colombian. I used to bring back Jamaican Blue Mountain roasted beans, when I used to go there on the cruise-ships I worked on, and loved it, the best in the world. But at current prices..... forget it....
Java is nice, but it doesn't give me the strenght and is slightly acidic.

but you aint going to see me drinking this stuff...

that's made of MONKEY DUNG.
Brits are flooding exclusive US stockists with orders for the brew, called
Kopi Luwak, made from berries that have passed through the digestive
system of Indonesian monkeys. Unlucky coffee plantation staff have to
search through the dung to gather the bizarre "harvest" of coffee berries,
which are said to emerge virtually intact.
Experts reckon the monkey business gives the drink a unique "earthy"
taste, which has made it the most expensive and sought-after coffee in the
world.
It is in such short supply - just 500 lb of it is harvested a year - that
it is virtually impossible to get hold of in Britain and has only limited
availability in the States and Japan.
Experts say the brew first came to light hundreds of years ago, when
explorers sampled it on the Indonesian isles of Java, Sumatra and
Sulawesi.
The monkey - known as the Palm Toddy Cat - lives on a diet of alcoholic
tree sap and coffee berries.
US-based food and drink critic Chris Rubin said:
"Whether it's because the intestinal juices give some special flavour or
because it eats only perfectly ripe berries, the Toddy Cat's droppings
produce what many say is the world's finest coffee."
Some exclusive US outlets sell Kopi Luwak for around a FIVER a cup.
US Coffee supplier Mark Mountanos has snapped up 110 lb of the beans.
He said: "We've had interest from all over the world because it is very
hard to get hold of."
US coffee shop owner Richard Karno ordered a pound from Mark's firm - but
only after he convinced him it wasn't a joke.
He said: "It's the best coffee I've ever tasted. It smells musty, but it
roasts up real nice

I really got into drinking coffee when i went to America 8 years ago and after trying their flavoured coffee i was hooked

Now in the last year i have found out that i cannot take any caffeine at all cos it causes headaches
