Hi all,
Last week I tried to book a flight MNL to BKK with Philippine Airways, for the fiancée of a friend of mine. He was in Ireland at the time without computer access, so I offered to make the booking for him. I went to PAL on line bookings and tried to pay with my friend’s card, Visa on an Irish Bank, but it was refused, 3 times. I then tried my Visa card on Nationwide but again was refused 3 times.
My friend had checked with his bank and I had with mine, both said there was no reason why either card was refused.
I called PAL they said both our cards ‘were on a list of cards which might have been exposed.’
I subsequently made the booking using a Debit Card. I had not wanted to do that as with that card, unlike Visa, there is no ‘insurance’ built in and with XL et al !!!!!
Both of us have since used our cards for other services with any problems.
Currently Nationwide are trying to ascertain why ‘their card’ was refused(its not mine in effect, as they are paying the supplier and recovering the cost from me).
Has anyone else experienced similar problems?
All the best, from a sunny Spain,
John
