appeal one reason is the jury is white, don't the defence and prosecution select which ones they want on the jury, why didn't they say something then , there should be no chance on that reason.

Yes you are right, the defence and the prosecutors usually spend a couple of days vetting the jury, and asking the jurors all kind of questions.

I presume it is a canny defence trick to claim prejudice in the face of what happened years before, as due to the old publicity over the court case, no impartial juror (white) can be found.
