It's supposedly rude, to ask a lady her age. Saves her from embarrassment.
...As for me, you can see I'm an old git!, as you can see my age...ha! ha!
I always think it's best to say, " how old are you, if you don't mind me asking". That way people don't feel obliged to answer.
Iain.
i always ask...how young are you?
"Chains do not hold a marriage together. It is threads, hundreds of tiny threads which sew people together through the years. That is what makes a marriage last - more than passion or even sex..."
Im proud to tell somebody my real age if asked...Its not the age the problem, its how someone brings herself/himself on the present age, physically and mentally.
likewise to say " she is fat" . If in the Phils, when you say to someone she looks fat or put on weight, means its abundant or means having a good like, while in the west when you say, she`s fat means negative.
English man: I am terribly sorry to ask my dear, but might I know your age? English woman: How dare you ask such a personal question! Where are your manners?! Where you raised by gorilla's? English man: I'm awfully sorry my dear, what I meant to say is your fat, ugly and you smell!...........
There are 7 Planes Of Existance:

Just like telling many Phills she has a nice tan and is looking darker today
Now days many in the workplace dont like to say their age i have noticed.
For me when people ask im like umm eerrr i cant rember then when i work it out they like blimey your a bit young to be your memory
The real answer as to why it is rude to ask someone's age stems from many years ago. If someone was literate and educated then they should know their age. However many people were not educated and did not know their age because they could not count properly or read any record they did have showing their age. Thus it was embarrassing for them and therefore made rude by default because it was seen as a way to humiliate the iliterate uneducated person.
I however have noticed that pinoy's (and their family, especially when meeting for the first time) ask many questions which in this country we would find too personal a question to answer. I personally dont have a problem with being asked these questions, but it was a cultural shock at first.
Boring I now but you asked..........
Wena&Russ
Me.."Hello.. Would you mind me asking just how young you are"??
Her "43"
Me.."Sorry..Perhaps I should rephrase the question.
I've also found out that it is rude to ask someone how much they've paid for something.
Say if u ask a woman how much she's paid for her shoes.
For me, i'd like to show off good stuffs i got for a bargain price!

If you wait long enough, you will normally get pensioners volunteering their age.
How many times have you heard 'I'm 83 you know' when you have been waiting for a bus?
