Here's another scam I'd like to make you aware of....this happened only 30 minutes ago!
I got a phone call from a man who claimed that I had "Won a holiday in Orlando!" Straight away I was suspicious of course, but I love listening to scammers (it gives me an oppurtunity to be rude to them hehe)
He claimed that I had won this holiday which would follow by a cruise, I asked him "What's this about? How has this come about?" He said that they were a holiday company who work in conjunction with the credit card company MASTERCARD, and that I was one of the twenty MASTERCARD winners! (I do have a MASTERCARD)
He then started prattling on about how fantastic the holiday was, how I could bring five friends with me, how I would either get free entry to Disneyworld or I could choose to get free car hire. I asked him again "Whats the bottom line? How has this come about?"
He said that I was a holiday winner as part of a MASTERCARD promotion, and that as long as I was free to travel in the next 18 months I could take the free holiday! He then said that he needed me to give him my credit card details to confirm that he was speaking to the winner before posting the brochure and tickets to me! I was like "Noooo I'm not sure I should do that!"
He said that to reasure me he knew that my MASTERCARD number started with a 5 but he needed me to tell him the rest of the number.........I had a quick look at my MASTERCARD, and sure enough my MASTERCARD certainly does start with the number 5! But I still didn't like the sound of it.....he said that they just needed my card number and expiry date, but I was like no! no!no!
I told him I wasn't interested and he was saying "Are you sure? are you sure you don't want to accept this free holiday?" I said "Yes I'm sure" and I hung up.
The first thing I did was call MASTERCARD, I asked them about these apparent free holidays, they told me that they certainly do give away prizes to their customers, but they didn't know anything about the one that I was describing, a holiday that must be taken in 18 months, a holiday only given away to twenty MASTERCARD winners..
So they were scammers! I told the people at MASTERCARD that somehow they knew my MASTERCARD started with the number 5, how could they have known that? They told me that EVERY MASTERCARD starts with a number 5 and that EVERY VISA card starts with a number 4! Scammers know these things..
So! Da knowledge is given! hehe
They were quite clever when they did that "we know your number starts with a 5" thing! And also that bit where he said "I could either get free entry to Disneyworld or I could choose to get free car hire!" - That made the whole thing sound like it might be genuine, it's not hard to see how some people get fooled by these scammers!
If you are a scammer...kiss here -
