like what joeblogs says ross, when your granted or your wife with spouse visa, she/he need to be in the uk for 2 years before the person with the visa can apply ILR needed to be within 28 days before your visa expire you have to apply FOR ILR, but..... you have to take the ''THE LIFE IN THE UK TEST'' first.before you do, its needed in the application and you better do it early a few months before you apply depends on you.
