    Going without her

Only one week to go and I'm off to the Phils- without her!
This will be really strange as the first two times I went there to be with her and the last time we went there for a six week holiday. This time she's staying in cold, rainy Britain while I go and indulge in sun, sea and San Mig!

I know I'm going to miss her like mad and that takes the edge off my excitement about going.
Anyway, I'm going for 8 days of intense diving with 5 friends to show them the wonders of Malapascua.

At the end I have a day free in Cebu on the 18th, so if anyone's free for lunch at SM, let me know.

Hopefully next year we'll go over as a family as soon as the exchange rate picks up, if it ever does.

I can imagine that would feel strange; going to da Phils without the missus. Not sure I could do it but hope you have a nice time there. I wish Pia and I could go now but I guess now is not the most apprpriate time. Bon voyage!

Rochelyn & I ate in the food court of SM many times - very nice grub

Malapascua - there's a little place on the beach run by a German man and his Filipina wife called "Hippocampus". The food there was the best I had on Malapascua - Rochelyn & I had the Pork Adobo a few times and it was always excellent, as was all their food

Diving on Malalpascua - "Dan's Dives" is always good and Dan is quite a character - a very laid back American and fun to chat with. He has a deal where you get a free days diving after doing a certain amount of days with him, and his boat is never as crowded as the others.

The passenger pumpboats now use the beach around the corner from the main beach as there were too many boats and it was dangerous.
A lot of the seafront properties were taken away on bounty beach as they were too close to the sea, which was a nice touch.
Walk to the lighthouse one day, the children in that area are a lot of fun and you get a great view of the island. Actually, a walk around the whole island doesn't take too long and it keeps you fit and healthy.

There is an internet cafe in the Japanese restaurant but don't expect to see a web page updating in less than 5 mins.

Make sure you get to Maya before about 4pm for the public pumpboat to the island. If you don't, wait for other stragglers to join to split the "special trip" cost, but looks like you are travelling with a shed load so that will not be a problem.

Daanbantayan, where Rochelyn and I got married is very small, but has a market if you need anything, otherwise a bus to the bigger town of Bogo gets you to Guisano Supermarket, banks and ATM machines and many shops.

Sharks - "Thresher" comes from how people used to thresh crops in the old days - it is how they "whip" their long tails to stun their prey.

Buy a large water (25 l ?) from B.B's Lodging. Water is from the mainland and is very safe.

    Great diving

Nothing wrong with the food as such agreed but I personaly find the Mall acoustic and ambiance off-putting especialy when there are so many great eating places within a £1.00 cab ride and excellent food to be had for 2-5 pounds

You could very possibly be right Keith, that would mean the wives going away from the Mall
I just found the food courts to be very convenient and then a cab ride back to the hotel.
Please let me know the names and addresses of a couple of good places in Cebu City so we can try them next time

I know Hippocampus, it's next to Thresher Shark Divers.

We're going back to TSD as I know them and I like their operation. Andrea and Trevor have been very helpful in organising this trip.

That's interesting as that's where we stayed last time at White Sands resort (crap). But the tide goes out there a long way.

A lot of the buildings were half demolished last time and not fully cleared away which made it look worse. I went for a long walk around the island and videoed most of it. There were other buildings marked with a red cross for demolition which were a long way back from the beach.

Not a problem, we have private transport all the way (I hope)

    Indeed!?

Seems really strange to go to the phils, but leave your filipina wife in horrible, cold, grey UK!?

Husband: ''Hello mahal, mind if I fly off to the phils and leave you here?''

Wife: ''Sure honey, have a blast!''

I am baffled. Imagine a filipina living with her British husband in the Philippines, and one day saying to her husband, "Honey, I am going to the UK for a holiday without you." Somehow I don't think so!!

But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.
Give on another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone.
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Whilst reading this thread, I was bemused. Is this a wind up? lol
How dare he, leaving his filipina in UK while hes going to have fun in the Philippines.

But anyway, have a nice time and enjoy your holiday in the Philippines.

Men need some time off as well with their wives so I really dont mind so long as its just a short holiday and of course if you trust your man. Whatever his reason for leaving his wife behind..lets hear it then, I hope its reasonable.

In my case, I allowed my husband to go on holiday in Thailand last yr bec I was pregnant then and can not fly. He did want me to go but I can not. He was there only for 2 wks anyway with his brother and went diving and besides I trust him. He goes on holiday every year whenever his contract finishes so I understand that he needs some time off before starting another job.

However this Dec we are all going as a family now to Thailand.

Well I'm back now and enjoyed the diving very much. Diving in the UK is rubbish and very good in the Phils.

If we lived in the Phils and my wife's hobby was bingo and real ale and planned a trip to the UK to undulge her hobby then I'd say good luck and have fun.

To Aposhark, the jap restaurant has gone on Malapascua. Apparently the owner knew a bit about food but little about running a restaurant. The place looked like a tip to me.
We didn't go to Ging Gings as the food in TSDs new restaurant was so good.
White Sands Resort where we stayed 2 years ago has been demolished.

The "world famous" still standing after 15 challenge at Sunsplash has changed from shots to beer. None of us thought we could knock back 15 San Migs in under a minute so we didn't enter.

A good time was had by all by I really did miss the wife.

    OUCH!
It's good to have money and the things that money can buy, but it's good to check up once in a while to make sure you haven't lost the things that money can't buy.
