I think you can check the status of your application online from the day after you submit, but it's really not that much use. You will just get the standard message below until they have finished with your application and reach a decision.

Status Your visa application has been forwarded to the British High Commission


Even when they reach a decision the message will just change to say its ready for collection or that it's been sent to you by courier but it won't actually tell you if the visa has been granted or refused.
