New job

Recently, Just out of curiosity I applied online for a job with a big double glazing company, and on purpose I did not include a CV or references.

Two days later some bloke phoned me up to book me for an interview with one of their recruitment managers for 3.30 yesterday, in Oswestry.
I did buy a cheap 26 quid suit for the occasion from Tesco, which I must admit ain't bad at all.
Anyway, I went, waited from 3.15 until 4.45 pm and the guy never turned up.
So a little annoyed I phoned their head office to give them a piece of my mind, and I did in good style.
On the way home, I answered my mobile and surprise, surprise it was the bloke in question, apologizing on behalf of the company, because they sent him to wait for me in Stockport.....
We did rearrange the meeting for today in Wrexham, and he was early....
To cut a long story short, I have been offered a job, and the terms and potential earnings are very good, actually.... Better than good.
Obviously it is down to how much effort I will put into it.
The good thing is that I do not need to stop selling wine, but I can run both things together....
With the wine company paying my traveling expenses.....

not sure you'll have time to do both jobs,it will probably take you 4 or 5 hrs to CONvince someone to buy double glazing

Even at todays gas prices it is cheaper just to turn the heating up.
The walls and loft are the biggest percentages of heat loss.

Look at the cost of double glazing, split it over the expected lifespan, and you will never spend that much in heating for the +-7% advantage gained. You will be richer to keep the single glazing. Of course, as our great grandparents would be able to tell you, single glazing with heavy curtains works.

If you are worried about carbon footprint, plant a couple of shrubs, that will more than compensate.

Double glazing is one of the biggest cons ever played on the British public.

Of course if the rest of the house is built to the highest standards, then double glazing is a worthwhile component, but a house without even cavity walls and proper loft insulation is still going to loose most of its heat even with the most expensive double glazing.

Joke job or not, it has the potential to help my finances considerably, taking into account that they have been around for nearly 30 years and branching out into other areas of home improvement.

To me 15% of something is much better than 100% of nothing....

You've missed the main point...double glazing increases the value of the house when sold, so any savings on heating are savings.

You mean I could make a bigger hash of it than it is now? I'll take that as a compliment.


So I want to sell my house in 15 years time, I fit double glazing now, and in 15 years when I want to sell it, I will have to fit it again, as the first lot will be shot by then. How did the first lot increase the value of my house?

How much does double glazing increase the value by?

If I was buying a house and wanted double glazing, I would rather buy the house without the increased price gained from the double glazing, and if I wanted double glazing I could use my savings to buy it, and it would be brand new, chosen by me.

The idea did cross my mind a couple of years ago. Couldn't see the point in having the aircon on, with slatted glass windows and no sealed ceilings.
The other thing I noticed, was the huge open gaps around the aircon units, a total waste of energy.

So maybe there is a future in double glazing in da Phill...

If you go somewhere like Dubai, you'll find a lot of double glazing.....maybe you could sell them some sand as well!

Thats the main reasons I changed them in my gaff which orignally had single glazed.

The more I read into this company profile, the more I realize that their strenght is adapting to new technologies and versatility.
Let's face it, they would not have lasted all these years if they weren't up to it.
Through them being wine buyers, I have seen lots of smaller local companies closing down because they only dealt with one or two aspects of home improvements.
Anyway, I am ready. They booked me into a Chester Hotel for a 4 days induction/bonding course thingy.
A bit annoying really, because The Hotel is only six miles from home, but looking at it in the cool light of the day I might actually get a couple of full nights sleep..........

I saw many of the larger firms are involved in various aspects of home improvment and i see they in to solar heating and power etc.

In the next few years with the huge reductions which have to be made in engery use and the goverment needing to kickstart the ecomony i could see that being a area where they push a lot of money. The engery saving trust and carbon trust seem to be well funded..

So I guess you a ECO salesman

You can get double glazed units (PVC) in Manila.. Not cheap though.

Ah, not seen any double glazing in Davao. I'm fitting single-glazed uPVC units in the new house - the price is 4,500 pesos per sq. m. Who's the lucky guy who has 75 sq.m. of glass in his house? As if that wasn't bad enough, we've chosen reflective glass, adding a considerable sum to that 4,500!
