Money and employment of the applicant are only two of the factors that are considered. They can help, but people do get visas granted without them (and people with them do get refused...).

You've got very little to lose by applying for a visitor visa (apart from ~£65 and a bit of time...) though be prepared for it to be refused.

Joint financial status applies when applying for a fiancee visa - if you have enough money to support the pair of you in the UK for at least 6 months then your fiancee's financial status is irrelevant.
