Well at the same time you feel a bit guilty when you know the living conditions in the Philippines. Once I communicated with a schoolmistress in Quezon City, she had to share a room with her brother, they had to share a bathroom with other people and they had no fridge.... mind you, no fridge in a tropical country! And still she had to sell Avon stuff to make both ends meet.... but of course it is not pleasant when this feeling of guilt and compassion is exploited by scammers!
i had sideline jobs when i was there (other than my accounting jobs): sold AVON products, Dakki Inflatable pillows, insurances name it!! hehhe...
also, sharing rooms with relatives are so common (but not with a brother if they belong in the same age group?)...
fregarding the fridge: NOT YOUR PROBLEM! there is always an ICE BLOCK/cubes that can be bought in the nearby convenience store...
but she is indeed a scammer.. just be very careful next time...
Ummm ... before I arrived in her life, Ruby's family (about a dozen people living there) only had one bed and one room. The only other option was to sleep outdoors. The bed was Ruby's - she bought it because she had become accustomed to a bed while working in Singapore ... and other members of the family did share it with her.
same here, when i applied for my fiancee visa ,some friends of mine says, did you put some western union receipt there, i said "why? he didn't send me money since we met more than year ago" and the reason they say is "commitment" issue, but i think i would be more questionable of the ECO if i ask money, cause i have good business here
the issue here is not all filipina are asking for money
