What have other member's done in regards to covering their fiancees for unforeseen health care during their time in the UK? Is there some sort of insurance I could take out?

Very good question. I took out a private Bupa policy for Pia as soon as we were married. If you can afford it, it's a great thing to have. We've also got the free EHIC European Health Insurance Card - well worth having.
Be responsible with little so that you can be trusted with much!!

Thanks Piamed. I was just thinking be safe not sorry. It is something easily forgotten, the NHS is just there for us (UK citizens) and we only think of health cover when we travel abroad. I will look into that.
That's a good point but can anyone answer this , what happens when you marry your fiance and you start a family quickly, your then wife will give birth to UK citizens but still wont be eligible for NHS treatment ? is that the way i'm reading this
I would not worry too much about Doctor visit, and out patient visits, etc, I think its reasonable to assume Fiancee's to UK are able to register at your local Doctor, and its a good move to arrange this.
As for referral and any outpatient visit, I am sure its reasonable for them to be referred under NHS.
As far as Hospitalization is concerned, unless the user of the service is a foreign national without any links to UK, i.e. not a Fiancee one presumes they have to pay, although many who come here to use the NHS invariably have done so because they are unable to get care in their country of origin.
I think those that took out BUPA or PPP have done a wise thing, for their respective Fiancee's, but i think on the whole NHS will suffice for those who perhaps don't feel able to run to the cost of such a policy.

When i came here i was on a fiance visa after few months i got pregnant. My Fiancee ( now my husband) registered me in his gp immediately and got all the treatment free as a pregnant woman. Unfortunately we lost our baby And got pregnant again after 5 months, this time i chose my own gp and have my own dentist.
Hope that gives u an idea.
goodluck
Thank you for that information will ask my GP as he is easy to talk to and very informed
hello james999...when i arrived here last month after a few days my husband registered me in a local clinic, got interviewed by a doctor who happens to have done a medical mission in the Philippines, she's my gp now. Just register her when she arrives. They will tell you what to do and the forms to fill up
