On my first [also 3 weeks'] visit last September, I took travellers' cheques in US dollars. NOT A GOOD IDEA, as *Metrobank charged me $4 per CHEQUE each time I cashed one. So, second time around, I simply withdrew cash from their *ATMs, using my BOS debit card. Which was fine ... until one day,... "transaction cannot be processed"! ... why? Then it all began to make sense: My account had been blocked. Reason: to protect it against the possibility of Identity Fraud. I only realised on phoning the Bank of Scotland Helpline from a friend's house, that I'd overlooked the necessity to notify my home branch of my decision to extend my subsequent stay in the Phils by two months. Luckily, everything was 'up and running' again within 24 hours! Whether this system is cheaper than the method you're accustomed to, I really couldn't say, but it's certainly worth looking into before you go!
