On the other hand, Thatcher did a stint as Education Secretary in the Heath administration, prior to defeating himin the 1975 Conservative Leadership contest, and ultimately becoming Prime Minister approximately four years' later. And, as we're all aware, of course, Brown served under Blair for more than a decade before finally taking over the reins.
