I'd been under the impression the EEA Family Permit was only valid for citizens of the Irish Republic, and that anyone from Northern Ireland would be ineligible on account of the north being part of the British Isles.
Correct me if I'm wrong in this assumption.
and as for your son, i don't think you need to register him at the embassy, couple of benefits if you do, but whether its worth it ? i don't know
