Anyone been to Japan in here?

Japan! Home of the Geisha! Sushi! Harajuku girls! And the most mischievious, silly TV shows in the world!

It is my dream, dream, dream holiday destination...

I also think that Japanese women look absolutley stunning! Usually slender, with beautiful skin..Does anyone know why Japanese girls are always so good looking like that? I know that Japanese men and women bath a lot, being clean is important to them, and they eat a lot of fish. I think fried/greasy food can be a cause of acne/bad skin..

I must say though, when I tell people I want to go to Japan, they say things like, "Oh Japan is a depressing place!"

I had a half Japanese half pinay girlfriend once, she was absolutely stunning, but her character was terrible still, there were fringe benefits for a while

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.

I'm not trying to undermine your relationship Sophie! There is a saying "I wont eat mince when I've got steak at home!" I think men are sincere when they say that. But if they see a beautiful walk past them, and they say I wouldn't look at her! I'm like "Oh your such a liar!"

an old friend of mine married a jap girl, she came here on a spouse visa, but he promised her they would go and move to Japan before her spouse visa expired, she didn't like the uk much , so he went back with her, and that was about 3yrs. I've had a couple of emails from him since then, seems to be doing ok, he teaches English to mature students.

I was lucky to be sent there for a company I was working for. it is the best place I have been to, not depressing at all. the people are so nice and the only place I felt safe while walking alone.

the only problem I had was I was only there for 2 months, but managed to explore at weekends to Tokyo and surrounding areas.

I would like to go again one day.

Wow! What did you do there? I've heard stories about Japanese people working very long hours...falling asleep on trains on their way home...sometimes they fall asleep with their face in a bowl of noodles?

Tell me more! Tell me more!

Did you ever go to that place where the Geisha girls are trained?

I work in the automotive industry as a design engineer and was working at Toyota.

Where I was working, some were working late in the office but not all and yes many sleep on the trains before and after work. on one visit to "denny's" for breakfast, a couple were sitting next to us and he was sleeping

I did not go to the place where Geisha girls are trained but we did see some when I was visiting one of the temples.

If she has the asian/oriental face with the oval eyes and perhaps a flat nose I will think she is good looking, it wont matter if she is a big girl.

Never been there and wish to visit Japan someday.
I studied HIRAGANA writings and learned how to write Japanese Hiragana. I almost forgotten now but I think I can still recall If I'll be back to school for a refresher course.

Learning Japanese certainly does seem complex...there is even a saying in Britain "It's all Japanese to me!" (This is very confusing!) I believe the written Japanese language has about three different styles, is that right?

You're right Nigel. And Hiragana is the easiest.

The hard one is katakana I think. There's some characters adapted from Chinese alphabet. Too hard to learn Chinese characters. I tried to learn it when I was in Taiwan but it takes ages to learn Chinese characters. But I can speak basic Mandarin

I'm sure you'll love it there Nigel. Japanese people as we know are very disciplined and killing themselves doing their job is very typical of them too. They are very warm and very respectful (one can see that in the way they bow their heads to show their respect). I know all these as my Mum has got a bit of Jap blood in her, also, my sister is married to a Japanese bloke and been in Japan for 8 years now. She teaches English for young children. The language is quite hard to learn and Nihongo is their national language.

The language was difficult to read but you start to understand some of the symbols. Luckily some of the resturants put in pics in the menu so at least you can see what you order.

As this may be my only trip there, I bring my kids out for a week so they can experience it too.

I dont think I will work anywhere that compares to the view I had out of my office window, Mount Fuji.

I work for A Japanese company so go there and visit now and then. Also visit many Japanese clients here including the Embassy opposite green park.
Many of our Japanese co workers do work very hard, often meet them from the airport and some will expect to come in to the office direct from the airport rather than go to the Hotel. Im always getting emails late evening or early morning, in fact we had to have company rule about no emails before 6 am. So no need now for a alarm clock as they all come flying though on the phone just after

I have to say although i know a lot of very good and decent Japanese people. Some of the blokes especially the older ones do treat women in a terrible way.

A few Managers when in the UK would never directly speak to a female and we had to ask a senior Japanese to explain politely they couldn't do that here.

The less said about the Japanese female assitants that would be hired after visits to karoake bars in London the better. One former Chairman was always doing it and we had a whole area of the hot desks for these workers to sit in.
Many of the Japanese workers would have them as PA's but also need a English speaking PA as well But the Japanese one would stay late and very kindly keep them company as they got a lift home

What is a major difference is a factory manager is held in far more esteem than a person in charge of a Sales company. Same with Engineers in general (im told its the same in Germany).

But I have to say i much prefer working for a Japanese company to a british one the sister companies we have that have been bought and work alongside us are terribly inefficent and frankly incomptent in many areas

Nigel save up and go to Japan with vimvie whatever you do dont try and do onto much of a budget. But i do think the japanese tourist board have a guide to doing on ( a normal persons budget) Japan is very expensive.

worth going to one of the many Japanese travel agencies in London and I think if i recall correctly the Japanese tourist board is in saville row.
Oh lord why did you make so many clothes and shoe shops

Thanks for your post Somebody! Your former chairman had a habit of hiring Japanese girls after meeting them in karaoke bars? Hehe I guess that's unusual practice for us, but what fascinating people!

So you've been to Tokyo? I hear it's pronounced Tuk-Yu rather than Toe-Kee-Yo?

Yeah done the tour of Tokyo a few times, quite scary the first if you just go for a stroll as very few Japanese speak English and of course very few signs in English or charcters you might pick up.

The hotels are out of this world, normally stay in yokohama city near by and each time in a differnt hotel all amazing, but i would not wanna pick up the tab myself. Transport in and out of Tokyo is well as you would expect on time.

Mostly I have been guided round and had the pleasure of visting co workers houses and the effort made on my behalf was such an honour.

Tokyo is huge like london you could spend days there wisting the imperial palaces, fish markets, gardens, parks and temples.

If you go make sure you read up well and plan it all out

Yeah umm Japanese working practises are strange and without wishing to say all Japanese businessmen are like this.

But I have noticed that when I have travelled with Japanese colleuages no one would raise an eyebrow when your offered some company.
On trips to Holland (european headquarters) we Brits tend to sneak off leaving the Dutch hosts to have to show the lonelier Japanese to have a tour of the red light district.

Trust me some of the Japanese work hard and party just as hard.

At work there was a massive issue when many of the younger single workers who came over on a tour would openly sit at work looking at porn

IT had to report it, of course HR were like you cant do that. The Japanese couldn't understand what the fuss was about.

Of course they were asked to stop, but a new internet connection was put in which was "unmontiored" for technical reasons
Oh lord why did you make so many clothes and shoe shops

Do they have panty vendors? I heard that. It seems to be ah really annoying habit of Japanese workers to tell people what to do always. Even the machines say it. Pick up your change and remember to take your goods and or ticket. That kind of hand holding stuff must drive people crazy

Not seen them in person Didn't wanna ask my hosts to show me

The Japanese just think it normal it seems to be told what to do. A big issue when dealing with non japanese who dont get it. Many Japanese devices have no problems when used in Japan as everyone does as they are told.

Of course in the UK who reads the manuals or follows instructions
Many of the designers have to travel to various countries to experince this for themsleves. They cant belive people would not want there hand held 24/7 and follow instructions.

Japanese Bosses from what I hear have to be warned that Brits might answer back or question directives which is unheard of.
Oh lord why did you make so many clothes and shoe shops
