Lawn care - please help!

Hope someone here who's got knowledge about lawn care could help me.

We just laid a new turf in our garden about 5 months ago, it was healthy and green but now seems that there are parts of my grass are turning brown, dry or dying. I'm always trying my best to look after it watering,fertilising once a month, keeping not to be too much traffic on it, etc. I don't have idea now what went wrong.

The thing I've done at the moment was I have patch the few dead lawn with the lawn seeds with compost and they are seems growing fine but Im still worried because there are signs of my few lawns are drying or turning brown.

Really? Is that true? even the grass is really dead and dried, it will still grow a new one?

i dont think it dies as such but our lawn always recovers and goes green again... just dont take me seriously what i am saying is merely an observation i am not a keen gardener

That's OK atleast I can now relax a little bit and not to worry too much. Thanks for advice!

hi ladyj,

we just have our lawn laid last may we were instructed NOT to feed it for a YEAR, NOT WALK OVER IT FOR A MINIMUM OF 4 WEEKS AND ALSO NOT TO PUT GRASS/LAWN SEED, and they said to always water it. So far (touch wood) it's still green.

I think your lawn is just lacking water, water it often, every day if it is looking dry, in the evening when the sun is low.

When you water your lawn, make sure that the top inch to inch and a half is damp. NOT waterlogged. If it needs doing every day, do it everyday. A good sprinkler is a good investment. You don't want to be doing it with a hose.
Grass WILL regrow once its established a decent root system, but turf doesn't have that strong roots when its new established so you really need to be careful getting it bedded in.
EVeryone buys turf as a quick fix solution. Its NOT. Its quickER, but not quick. The best way is the long way - prepare the soil, seed it, stay OFF it, and wait for it to become established. Ittakes 2 years or more before its a decent lawn though.

Actually, too much peeing in the same place kills it.

Pregnant bitches or in "season's" pee, will kill the patch of lawn immediately.
