I remember in lab chemistry my friend Paul, followed instructions to the letter and was looking around for a bottle for copious water. as stated in the instructions "use copious water to cool the substance upon heating"

Gary, where is the copious water bottle I cannot find it
It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum. And I'm all out of gum.

I enjoy questions like this. How about this solution:

    Boil water with no burning/
It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum. And I'm all out of gum.

.... and besides you can't burn water because it will turn steam. Very impossible to burn water.

You could of course use electrolysis to convert the water into hydrogen and oxygen, in which case it would not only burn but most likely explode, sending your hard boiled egg into orbit.

    Cheers!

I assume you mean without evaporating it in which case the only way would be to boil it in a vacuum in a sealed container so that the steam could not escape. Alternatively, under very high pressure, water can reach temperatures of several hundred degrees Celsius without turning to steam.

But if you just want to boil an egg in a standard saucepan I suppose the only practical solution is to keep an eye on it.

It's good to have money and the things that money can buy, but it's good to check up once in a while to make sure you haven't lost the things that money can't buy.
