I've not seen anywhere about changing it from 2yrs to 6 months, i doubt it would change to 6 months.
at present you cannot spend more than 2yrs outside the UK if you have ILR or you will lose it, and have to start again, ILR is not some form of visit visa, the UK is suppose to be your home.
if you intend to stay out of the uk for long periods, you'll need to apply for citizenship
