Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD and, instead
of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password
requested is blank, and TAB over.

    Use
    Attrib -H -R -S C:\boot,ini
    DEL C:\boot.ini
    to delete the bad one
    BootCfg /Rebuild

to search for Windows installations and make a new one

That should work, unless the disk is screwed up and hal.dll really is missing.

    Thanks Boss

But i think i will just need to get it to a proper technician as i dont have a XP CD. I tried to insert the recovery disk, but it is still the same.

    It is really frustrating
It's good to have money and the things that money can buy, but it's good to check up once in a while to make sure you haven't lost the things that money can't buy.
