I have approached this subject before and not had a really good answer.
Having read Peter's latest (magnificent) thread I feel that I really need to ask these questions.
1. Why do Filipino men p**s on the streets openly - it is simply disgusting!!!!!
2. Why do Filipinos (men AND women) spit on the streets - that is even MORE disgusting!!!!
When I first met Hanna, she used to spit - SHE DOESN'T ANY MORE!!!

1) because there are no public toilets- just like in the uk
but we have pubs and supermarkets where you can spend a penny.
2) you would spit to if you had a fly in your mouth, the littleare everywhere or maybe they just tasted my wife's cooking

There are one or two public toilets in Manila,thats the only place I ever saw them,walk around the back streets of Manila,off the beaten track and the stench in some side-streets and back alleys is eye-watering,I actually wanted to carry my own spray can and follow the Pinoy tradition as the most common graffitti is "Bawal umihi ditto".

And it is equally disgusting when you are standing somewhere and someone just spit nearby or even close to you....
it is so unhygienic and i think people doing this has no manners at all....no offence meant to those doing it.....
If you feel like spitting so bad, why not get a tissue or a paper to spit on, fold it and throw in the trash bin.....or try the toilet, lol
As for some guys pissing on every corner, look for a toilet or hold it, lol

i had noticed one or two taxis in the cagayan area had a sign inside asking people not to spit inside
so i asked mrs t about it and she said the dirty fecking muslims have no respect that would spit anywhere
Alan I can well understand your frustrations, at Davao City International Airport, you guys may have noticed the sign when you go for a Cebu Pacific domestic flight which reads
Do not spit in the drinking fountain
Come on guys you must have seen this, I took a photo of it last week, on my way through to Mandaue City Cebu, where we met friends, sorry I missed Al, that would have been fun.
I also notice that they spit, the worst for me, and no matter how many times I am here, I can't get over it, on the back of jeepneys in front of me when I am driving, they are gossing over the back, dirty so and so's.
Plus, guys urinating down the sides of tyres and walls, and the worst is, it says, Bawal umihi dito, do not p...s here.
They do it in all the places where it is forbidden, its a filthy Filipino habit, i asked some people at dinner yesterday, and they say, its disgusting, but they say, its the tambay,who do it, not the educated.
I support AL in this, they are filthy filthy when I see them I put the thumbs down and go..ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh pasaway pinoy.
What would stop this of course is a fine, but then again, they dont have the money to pay, its not like you can frog march them to the ATM.
Sorry guys, there is little one can do, however Manila is better than the provinces, I saw in Manila a couple of weeks ago, one of the pink urinals, there are over 400 in Manila, the jeepney drivers tell me they are very handy places, so the males can go and urinate.
But in the provinces, there are not places for them to go, and Filipino wont wait, like we do in UK where we go to a supermarket, or a department store or garage, its annoying we all know, but most of the educated types I have dinner with, agree with my sentiments, they just know there is little they can do.

I was a little surprised to see men peeing in the street the first time I saw it.

Actually i noticed it as well but luckily my place is in marikina which if you pee or spit in any public place you will be fined 2000ph so maybe people around my are are now diciplined. Another reason i heard from a friend doctor the reason why most asian spit alot it is because of the hit. so most people cant wait to look for a bin to spit. but generally, i have noticed that most filipinos who spit and pee in public areas are those who lacked from education
